Too hot to sleep?

I live in Ohio (in the US... look it up), and it has recently started to warm up after a pretty harsh [and late] winter.
As luck would have it, my room is up on the 2nd floor, and my grandmother (who I'm living with... until I finish up at the local community college and move on to the 4-year places) hasn't turned on the AC yet.
So, despite the fact that my window is open as far as it can and my little fan is working as hard as it can, it's still really hot and stuffy in here.
The sucky thing is that it's cooler RIGHT OUTSIDE MY ROOM in the hall, but my granny's sister is in the next room with the door open, and I can't open my door because I have the TV and light on, and I don't want to wake her.
WHY IS IT SO DAMN HARD TO SLEEP WHEN IT'S HOT?!
Truth. I think it hit 80 in Cleveland today.

I'm a few miles south of Cleveland.
It's hard to believe that I was shivering to death walking to class just a couple of weeks ago.

'Cause you're not used to it. :p You'll get there again.

Yeah, this time last month I was in a blizzard in Milwaukee, they got 16 inches. Today it's 80. That and I might be within artillery range of you.

Maybe it's hard to sleep when you have the TV and light on?
I do, therefore, have an ingenious solution for you. Turn the TV and light off, and then open the door. You have then both reduced the temperature and removed distractions.
I won't charge for my services this time.

WHY IS IT SO DAMN HARD TO SLEEP WHEN IT'S HOT?!
That is a serious question I think.
When it's hot at night, people are supposed to have sex, and sit around and chat, and do any kind of work which can be done by fire or candle-light.
Then, in the day when it's WAY TOO HOT, they sleep. 'Cos you have to sleep some time.
Nature is telling you to go forth from your sweaty den and bonk your great-aunt. Or at least, offer a nice game of Canasta.
So glad to have this opportunity of telling you what's waht. *bows*

How hot does it get in Ohio that you need air conditioning in April?

Yes! If it's cooler outside, go sleep outside. Thoughts like that scare the shit out of most people, but you've clearly lived outside the box.
The best nights' sleep I've ever had have been on the ground, with no roof. It's almost impossible to explain to those who've never tried it. It can really suck, sure, if there are bugs or damp or threatening people or creatures ... but it can also be a fantastic night's sleep, the kind which sets you up for a really special day.

Meh. Another sleep-deprived satyr. NSG Private.
What you need is a cut-throat argument about the death penalty. That will give you incentive for being unconscious!

what I suggest is opening up your covers and hoping in to sleep inside (I can't be the only one who does this?)
or as suggested have a siesta and remember when you wake up that festival is compulsory otherwise the peasants will eat you!
it can also be a fantastic night's sleep, the kind which sets you up for a really special day.
you can also wake up every 2 hours or so and wonder where the fuck you are ;)

*goes back to sleep*
*wakes up feeling fucking fantastic*

Cry me a river. I live in Florida. It's like hell, except that we have lots of hot women, nude beaches, disney world, and... well I guess it's not very much like hell.
It's still hot, though!

It hit the 80s on a lot of the eastern part of the country.
This may sound odd but it got me through the blackout some years back:
Wet a pair of socks, then wring them out. Put them on and go to sleep with your feet over the side of the bed (so as not to soak the mattress). You'll feel cooler.

That's your own fault. It's expected to be hotter in Florida; around here, 80 in April is pretty intense.
And: I did manage to sleep, but only for a few hours (because I have errands to run before I go to work).
