Yay earthquake!
Any other Generalites feel a slight shimmy this morning? Well I didn't, I was asleep yet. 5.2 (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsus/Quakes/us2008qza6.php) magnitude, lasted about half a minute. Makes me wonder if the New Madrid (http://www.greatdreams.com/060618.New.Madrid.faults.jpg) fault is going to act up again or if this was the "big one" this year. Yay for earthquake insurance. Best $5 I'll spend this year.
I always thought dogs and other animals were supposed to detect quakes, neither of mine mad a sound. Lazy bastards.
Yup, shook my building enough to wake me and wonder wtf was going on over here in West Lafayette.
Your pets detected it, they're just out to get you, I'm sure.

The Wabash fault is at fault. Part of the New Madrid system.

Yeah, I felt it. I woke up because my bed started moving, and when I noticed my trophies rocking back and forth, I figured out what was going on. Then I went back to bed.

is it me or do Earthquakes always happen at night when every reasonable person is asleep?

My mum said the house was moved to the north about 3/4 of an inch, so there was a bit of structural damage as we are only 50ish miles from where the epicenter was.

Only 40 miles away here. No damage I noted this morning, but I'll have a look around after work. Saw on the news some buildings were damaged as far away as Louisville. What the hell do the Kentuckians build with straw?

Nah, some of the best quakes happen during the day. We had a 6.9 where I live that was in the middle of the day. Good fun as I was driving down the road at the time.

50 miles from a 5.2 isn't going to do much structural damage.

I think part of it is that the structure was already a little shaky, and that just made it easier for it to be moved. Its an old house and all. And I have proof, in form of pics on my cell phone that she sent me.
