What is your favorite national flag in the whole world?

I won't put a poll up for obvious reasons, but I have decided that Guinea-Bissau's flag is really good.

my favorite flag is the one i created a long time ago. its the one i use on here. but neither this place nor even the internet existed yet when i did.

if i ever get the chance to get arround to it, to actually make a real, full size one in real life, and not just the painted one hung in a fraime on my wall, and a flag pole to fly it on i fully intend to fly it. at least until a cop with a gun or some other legitimate representative of a government i'm surrounded by tells me not to.

i'm not interested in starting any wars over it, but, its damd sure prettier, both in and of its self, and in what it stands for, then that of the nation where i mundanely live.

there's no white, black, or red in it, and damd little blue, other then turquoise.
almost half of its turquoise representing the sky, most of the other half is umber/sieanna, representing the earth, seperated by wavey green lines representing the web of life, and a big pumpkin orange circle in the center of it representing the life giving sun.

no white because we feel that to be hypicritical and pretentious, and no red because we're not into killing anybody, or dying either. the willingness to do both being what red in flags generally represents.

we do like those rare flags that also have neither red nor white in them. even more if they have green, and the blue, if any, isn't dark, or mostly isn't.

do you know how many flags i've been able to find with no red or white (of mundane neations, that is). i forget the actual count but i'm pretty sure it was less then ten. out of how many? more then a couple of hundred at least.

Aside from WWII (kind of), from where does France get its reputation for surrender?

I'm also rather fond of this (http://www.nationstates.net/images/flags/uploads/tsaraine__1.jpg) flag.

So any flag with stars in it? Check out the Alaska state flag you might like that one.

I like the Kyrgyz flag.

The flag of Kyrgyzstan was adopted on March 3, 1992. It consists of a red field with a yellow sun in the center having 40 rays representing the 40 Kyrgyz tribes; alternate interpretations suggest 40 warriors of the mythical hero Manas. On the obverse side the rays run counterclockwise, on the reverse, clockwise. In the center of the sun is a red ring crossed by two sets of three lines, a stylized representation of the crown or tunduk of the traditional Kyrgyz yurt, a symbol replicated in many facets of Kyrgyz architecture. The red portion of the flag represents the peace and openness of Kyrgyzstan. (personal note: the red background was originally intended to be a deep blue but that idea was reported to have been rejected by the former rulers who insisted the flag have a red background, or so I've heard).

(From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Kyrgyzstan)

Kyrgyzstan's name means "Place of forty girls", 'Kirk' is forty is Kyrgyz/Turkish and 'gyz' is girl. Can't go wrong with a name like that, eh?:fluffle:

If anyone deserves a bad war time reputation (both in battles and diplomatically) it's the Italians. Half of WWI was them launch human wave after human wave at the Isonzo river to little avail. WWII was even worst, Italians surrendered like flies.

OK, as an actual nation's flag : Kiritabi - the state is a sorta failed one, but the flag is genius.

As to my other favourite flag, that'd be the city flag of Portein.

I like that one much better than the original, it's so boring and the colors are quite ugly. (especially the yellow)

I think the trick is, they sort of spiral up the leg from S1-L5... with other sacral nerves scattered around...

It's actually quite logical. In the embryo the dermatomes are straight lines (similar to how they are on the rest of the body). During the development of the embryo the limbs rotate which cause this spiraling patern. The arms and legs rotate differently (thats why your knees are in the front and your elbows in the back, it also explains the counterintuitive flection and extension of the foot) that's why the spirals are different, I think it's actually quite helpful to see a picture of this to study the dermatomes. A textbook on embryology could probably explain this better.

[/seriousness]WWI. There were plenty of mutinies mainly because a vast majority of French soldiers had to endure Verdun due to the rotation practices. That's also one of the reasons France surrendered so quickly. Traumatised generations don't fight well.

I don't like tricolour flags, they're just three stripes in different colours. You sit down and try to draw either the Union Jack or the Stars and Stripes and then we'll talk. And that's not even considering their abysmal proportions.

That's not the stars & bars. That's the battle flag of the confederacy. This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:CSA_FLAG_4.3.1861-21.5.1861.svg) is the Stars and Bars.

Whoops. I stand corrected. See what happens when things are done in a hurry? Well, they both make the list.
