As kids, most of us spent time lying in the grass, watching clouds roll by and imagining the shapes we could see in the fluffy white masses.

Now, one company aims to indulge those flights of fancy by actually making "clouds" in the shapes of, well, anything, from the Atlanta Braves' tomahawk to Mickey Mouse's iconic head.

These clouds are actually a mixture of soap-based foams and lighter-than-air gases such as helium, something like what you'd get if you married helium balloons with the solutions that kids use to blow bubbles from plastic wands.

If this gets into the wrong hands we could be besieged by a swarm of flying foam penises ...... at least that would be my initial choice. Immature I know, but it would be hard to resist.

So what would you Flogo?

Oh great, now even our skies are gonna be clogged with adverts?

Turn off the TV, I'm bored with this inane consumer culture, I'm just gonna lie in a nice field and look up at the clear blu- oh for crying out loud!

This is really old technology. There have been skywriters for ages. It just takes a lot more math to make a really effective shape that doesn't dissipate quickly.

This is really old technology. There have been skywriters for ages.Yes, but those used smoke; not helium filled soap bubbles.
It's like saying a electronic typewriter is the same technology as a clay tablet + stylus because you use both to write with.

Ah, I didn't actually watch the video until just now. I see what this thing is - the poor man's skywriter.

We need to make a hundred peace ones, then launch them over Iraq and Gaza.

Well we could screw with people's heads by doing some mushroom clouds near a few major cities. Though we might inadvertently start a world war in the process which would be embarassing.

Yes, they'd mistake them for secret American / Israeli war planes, and use all their ammo to shoot them down, and then there'd be a bit of peace and quiet, until the next shipment of ammo was brought in from all those peace loving arms merchants... :D

Making them bigger would require a bigger machine though.

Wasn't there a company which wanted to launch billboards into space or project advertising on the moon?

I doubt it should be a problem to add a little color to the soap mix.

I think there's also a problem with making them bigger because that could cause them to fall apart more easily.

If the advertising companies get a hold of this i will be extremely annoyed.

I think they should be used to throw out simple pictures of animals. nothing complex.

Great. Exactly what we need, intentional pollution and more opportunities to inundate our world with advertising. It's not bad enough that you see all over the mountains in CA and whatnot, but now a clear blue sky filled with Chevy symbols. And, hey, it's not like we're putting this stuff into the sky and it has to come down somewhere. That's someone else's problem.

Oh, dear God, you're right. We're about to get RL spam. Imagine Ifreann released into the wild. This crap better be expensive or we're in trouble.

No, it'd be so cheap that Wal-Mart will be selling it. *nod*

Could they clog jet intakes?
Modify rain patterns?
Insert chemicals into air/rainwater?
Confuse sensors?
Could they be modified to do these things?
What if they fly over military installations?

Definitely don't let civilians have access to this technology!

What? Of COURSE I'm not saying this just to avoid having my sky filled with soap-bubble ads...
