Jam? Is there such a thing as good jam? I've never seen any jam that's not full of corn syrup or high fructose corn syrup or some other syrup...

Like I said, my Great-Grandma's Strawberry Jam. Nothing but strawberries and pure sugar.

Have you considered making your own?

I have once. Someone recommended putting some marbles in the pot. The idea is that the marbles bounce around the bottom of the boiling mixture and stop it from sticking to the pot and hence burning.

When I poured the jam into jars I was one marble short. Buggered if I know what became of it. Did it dissolve? Jam tasted OK, though, if a bit runny. (Yes I added pectin but it didn't seem to help.)

And yes, I know, I'm short a marble.

I have considered making my own, yes, much as I've considered making my own of lots of other things.

Unfortunately, a current lack of control over food supplies leaves me unable to do so. (Said lack of control comes from still living with my parents...)

Andaluciae: Hmm...that does sound good.

Oh, noooo, gods -- any gods --- please help me!! *clutches head* AAAGGHH! Prague flashbacks!!! gahaahahrh...

When I vacationing in Prague a few years ago, there was a party of British tourists staying at my hotel, and I got to share the breakfast room with them every morning for ten days. And every single day, without exception, it was the same show at their table, performed at the top of their stupid damned lungs:
Would you like some jam?
Is there any marmelade?
No, no marmelade, just jam.
Oh, I was hoping for marmelade, but you say there isn't any?
No, apparently they've only got jam.
Etc and so on, for at least 10 minutes, every damned day. And on the other side of the room there was me with my coffee and my salt roll and my white knuckles.

So what do I like to put on my toast in the morning? HUMMUS!!

Oh, fun! Apricot, raspberry, chokecherry ... what else am I now craving? My grandma's grape jelly and my dad's strawberry jam. I think that covers it. Apple butter is good, too.

"captain our radar is jammed!"
"oh no, not again"
"we'll never manage all that on our toast in the morning".
okay but poor jokes aside, i think strawberry jam is good. Homemade jam is even better.

Q. What did the hatchling say when it saw a piece of fruit in the nest?

A. Look at the orange marmalade.
