Scary eye deamon

I see a transparent wiggy thing akin to this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v110/Doveofwar/Scaryeyething.jpg) floating around the place. It floats to the centre of my focus, and then drops directly down and out of my vision. If I move my eyes rapidly, I can make it fly around the sky a bit. It's with me all the time, sometimes I catch it making it's happy wiggly way around rooms, but it's mainly when I'm looking at the sky that I can see it. I've seen it as far back as I can remember, and paid it no heed, because I imagine strange and intresting things happen to people who wander about declaring that they see thing that really aren't there.

But then, recently a friend asked if if I ever saw a transparent horse-thing floating about whenever I look at the sky. Turns out he had it too. So I started wondering if the eye deamon was more widespread.

Ever seen the eye deamon? Any idea what it is? Should I have myself committed?

It's normal.

There's some shit floating in your ocular fluid, in your eye. Happens to everyone.

Yes those kinds of things are normal.

Unless of course, it is combined with a craving for human flesh and the urge to make abortion legal.

Yes, unlike our age of skepticism where you could probably only convince people they were aliens. Or the New World Order.

Floaters are not the only entoptic phenomenon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entoptic_phenomenon). I see blue field entoptic phenomenon when looking at the blue sky, the difference from floaters is that blue field is white blood cells seen as several identical tiny dots moving in a row along a set path. Also, I see phosphene, random lights even though the room is completely dark and/or the eyes are closed, when trying to sleep or when rubbing the eyes.

Oh and it's spelled demon not daemon you silly BSD fanboy.

Berkeley Software Distribution is several free versions of Unix and the ancestor of Mac OSX's kernel Darwin. Unix systems call background services deamons and BSD's mascot is a daemon named Beastie:

It's silly of them to spell demon daemon and even sillier to call services daemons, just had to nitpick about it. Linux does it too so I've seen error messages like "You need to restart the daemon to establish a connection." even though I was not trying to open an infernal gateway to hell.

I get something odd.

Sometimes, at the focal point of my vision, I see what looks like shadows falling into each other. It sort of looks like a flower, closing in on itself perpetually, with new petals being formed at the edge of the flower while the ones that have drifted to the center collapse into the very center of my focal point. Like floaters, I don't see it all the time, it is more apparent against uniform surfaces, and it follows my vision. Unlike floaters, this doesn't get worse as I get older.

Anyone else?

I used to see them... They almost always took the form of what I just looked at before I blinked... It was cool to see a new multi-coloured version of my teacher fly away and stop talking about our next piece of homework.

And the older you get the more you have. I have a virtual flotilla of them. It's amusing to unfocus and watch them when I have nothing better to do.

result of looking at too much porn on the internet. You'll be getting hairy palms next, you degenerate.

I leave you with Stewie:
Oh squiggly line in my eye fluid.
I see you lurking there on the periphery of my vision.
But when I try to look at you, you scurry away.
Are you shy, squiggly line?
Why only when I ignore you, do you return to the center of my eye?
Oh, squiggly line,
it's alright, you are forgiven.

No, they call them daemons. There is no such word as deamon.

It's silly of them to spell demon daemon

They're not spelling demon daemon. They are spelling daemon daemon. Demon and Daemon are two different words. That's like:

"There's lots of fog and mist about, I can barely see a thing."

"Why are you spelling missed mist?"

"I'm not."

and even sillier to call services daemons

Why? It makes sense. A daemon is a being in Greek mythology (Latinised spelling, originally daimon in Greek) that is the halfway point between man and gods, a daemon performs the mundane tasks the gods can't be bothered to do, in the same way that Unix daemons operate tasks in the background so that the user doesn't have to.

Linux does it too so I've seen error messages like "You need to restart the daemon to establish a connection." even though I was not trying to open an infernal gateway to hell.

What has the gateway to hell got to do with daemons? You're thinking of demons - explicitly malevolent forces in Christianity. Daemons can be good or bad, and the name daemon for the computer program came from the thought experiment Maxwell's Demonm in which he describes a being neither good nor bad, simply able to manipulate processes, like a Unix daemon, thus more resembling a daemon than an evil demon, hence why the word (not spelling) daemon was chosen rather than demon.

just had to nitpick about it.

And it's quite fun. I don't mean any of this in a malicious way (like a dem- no, I won't), I was just pointing out where you were wrong. I really don't mean this to be sarcastic or sneery, it just means you're now more informed about this.

I know they spell it daemon not deamon and I did spell it correct in the previous post, in this post however I somehow copied the the misspelling in the thread title without noticing it, I'm so sorry about that.
Demon and Daemon are two different words.
Ahh, I understand. It seems I was fooled into thinking it's the same word by the mascot being a cartoon of a Christian demon, the Greek demons being mentioned as source of the term daemon and most importantly the Swedish translations of software and documentation I use translating daemon to demon.

Okay you're right daemon is not a misspelling, it's a real word.

So this thread is about scary background processes in the eye then?

So this thread is about scary background processes in the eye then?

Haha. I guess the rods and cones perhaps.

And yeah, it is confusing because although Unix uses the Greek mythological daemon as the word, they play on words and use the Christian demon as the mascot. As and Es everywhere. Messy.

But yeah, I wonder if there are people who see normally but never see any phosphenes ever. I'm sure everyone sees them when they look at a bright light then look away, but I could be wrong.

I don't know, there could be some who see a perfectly smooth and unison completely black image in darkness.

Imagine if you never saw any phosphenes ever. Personally I think they're kinda fun. Although they can be annoying when you're trying to see after a bright light and it's getting in your way.
