I don't see what would make menbots so hard to design. They perfected the art of dildo making ages ago. There's even those nifty devices that will provide the motion if you are too lazy to do it yourself.

You forget to take into account medical advances. Odds are you'll not only be fully capable of using it but you will be using it, presuming someone doesn't run you over with a bus.

It really disconcerts me to think of a) doing anything with one - you're having sex - one of the most natural acts possible - with A ROBOT, and b) the idea of them being available to people, what sort of person buys a prosthetic person to have sex with? And speaking only for myself, the thrill of sex is about being so close to another person and opening yourselves up to and being vulnerable with each other. The physical sensation, for me, is a much lesser part of it, hence, even if there was a sex toy that produced physical feelings even better than sex, there probably is one around now, I would still prefer actual sex as the physical sensation isn't the biggest part of the experience for me.

I understand however that I am only myself and not anyone else, and am making no attempt to generalise this point of view to anyone else.

One thing about sex is that it's time-consuming, and there are scheduling concerns (both parties need to be simultaneously available and interested). The sexbot solves a lot of those problems.

This reminds me of the Virtual Mode series by Piers Anthony. In the super-science world, they had these genetically engineered human/animal hybrids called "nulls" that were used for--among many other things--sex, precisely for the sort of reason you point out, in addition to simply spicing things up and keeping things from becoming too boring.

We should definitely adopt the convention mentioned in Asimov's The Stars Like Dust: Robots must have a distinctive name. In Asimov's book, they are required to have the first initial "R." I suggest that any sexbot's name must have the word "bot" in it. Debrabot. Dylanbot. Jehoshabot!

Perhaps we could take that even further, and require letters to designate the technical level of the sex bot. I think it's important to know, when being introduced to a sex bot, whether it's likely to come on randomly or whether it's one of those early models which respond only to specific key-words.
