I'll take what I can from summer with a part time job + a full time or another part time job. (Yeah, my actual job is a part time job and I don't want to lose it after summer).

So I guess I'll just be killing myself to work to pay for that appartment I'm moving into, while saving for my next semester of school. Thankfully there's government money that I can use as a safety net.

It's great being a student.

A mixture of low paid internships and non-paid internships, which should make me just about enough to get by, but I won't be able to save much, so I might try squeezing in an extra part-time job as well.

I have two potential internship options for this summer. I sent my resume to the NRA, and I have a phone interview on Monday. If that doesn't end up working out, I'm going to intern at the Motown Museum in Detroit. They have rooms full of unreleased music that needs digital archiving.

I worked at a theme park during the summers while I was attending college. Hours were great - the earliest I had to be in was 10:00 (only sometimes that early) and work 'til 9:00 pm sun-thurs, 11:00 pm fri-sat. Might seem like the hours were long, but the work was easy. I was a games booth attendant. No, they weren't rigged, you just suck. Made minimum wage, but the hours really boosted the paycheck. Now they've boosted the pay scale across the board, so money's even better. My department manager was a good guy - he'd worked the booths for several seasons and was there to help more than to boss.

I'm not in full time college...

however this season I'm going to do the menial labour that nobody wants to do most likely spending my time high off my face at Toys R Us (yes I know they a pricks who will exploit my every working organ) maybe you should try McDonald's:)

any money I make will be going to Mr Brewery and Lady Rohypnol

What I meant is, unless you plan to live at your parent's house forever (if you do), you'll need some money some day, won't you? And what you seemed to be saying is you'll just burn it all away to get drunk.

Seems like a plan to fail for me. Bah, what do I know?

Because they have "bring your gun to work" day.

But really, I had hoped to work for the NRA this summer. The Motown Museum just kind of fell onto my lap.

I live at 3 houses right now and I'm only 18 :p (which is oddly more than I can say for many of those who have set this as a goal and now live in some shitty flat)

you'll need some money some day, won't you?

I also need to have fun and enjoy the summer instead of some sort of slow death by masturbation as you suggest

not that I'd ever need money that badly

Depends how hard you work...and where. My gf is pretty sure she'll be able to pay all of her university fees with summer jobs.

Bartending, serving tables, and lifeguarding in that order

depending on the bar, I would walk 1-400 dollars bartending, usually 60-150 dollars serving tables, and lifeguarding pays about 4-6 bucks over minimum wage

here (http://www3.open.ac.uk/study/index.htm) the OU provides financial support for those who are under a minimum income (which to be honest is anything below Texas billionaire) and have even provided vouchers to buy laptops or anything else needed

then when your a world famous plastic surgeon you make donations and everybody wins!

It doesn't seem all that important when you consider the differences in salary between the jobs you get post-graduation.

That all depends in what domain you are going. It could make a big difference. I personaly don't like the idea of owing 10-20k to the government.

Meh, I'll probably end up in a warehouse again. Hardly fun but easy and with a forklift license will pay from £6.50 to £11 a hour. It's either that or try and get a paid placement with a company relevent to my course.

Annoyingly though, the fieldwork requirement of my course is going to cut a month off the length of my summer.

Weekdays - I'm hoping to get work in a call centre because they have a tendency to give me as many hours as I want.

Weekends - Packing parachutes. Just got signed off to pack the tandems so that's an extra £10 a time and £5 for student kit. Considering I can pack about 4 student kit an hour (if I work flat out) then that's £20 an hour while the weather holds. If that starts to get too painful on my knees then I can always go manifest for the day in a nice comfy office

EDIT: And I plan to have a net profit of £0 by the end of the summer :P

No jobs for me. I shall be taking 16 hours worth of classes. (First of which will be Studio Business Operations- I'm kinda excited!) I may make myself available to babysit or something if I find anyone who needs it.

Last summer I worked at a day care. More accurately, I was the 3rd/4th grade "teacher" for the city school system's summer care program, a part of it's Extended Day (after school care) program. It wasn't terribly difficult (if you don't mind kids), the hours were great (shift change was at lunch and I was afternoon), the pay was better than working at a restaurant, and I came away with great stories.

Next spring, however... I'll hopefully be getting an internship. Won't be paid, but it'll probably be fun and a great way to network.

and maybe you have a really cool gun that you want to show off to other gun enthusiasts to generate their envy.

I had always planned to intern for the NRA this summer. I contacted them first, they contacted me first. I have an obligation to go there if they decide that they want me. Besides that, it's going to be an exiting time there, because I'll be interning (hopefully) when the decision from Heller comes through.

An NRA internship will also get me experience in a lobbying organization. And that could prove useful in the future.

yikes, that was a horrible flash back :p

This summer I am doing 3 sessions of clown camp, which is basically where parents pay me $75 to watch their kids for a day, I paint their faces, teach them how to make balloon poodles and talk about the importance of liking yourself (or some shit) and also we put on a show at the end of the day. I might have to do 4 sessions, there is a lot of interest this summer already.

Probably working in a lab, doing small tests. It's boring work and I have to work mornings and nights too, but the lab has airco and it makes about €2000 which is very good for 17 days working (23 - 4 days holiday).

Bartending sounds cool, yeah, but I've never thought about it. Most bartenders in pubs here are male but in clubs, they are usually female, attractive and in their 20's. Now that I think about it, I think I've seen very few male bartenders in clubs. Going from the female example, I think they'd prefer tall attractive guys to hire. I think you can get way more tips in clubs tho I'm not sure if I can make it, I'm male, prolly good looking but kinda short.

I dunno, there's something pleasing about the sound a .45 makes as it belches out bullets into a target. A .22 makes a satisfying thwack as it hits a tin can, too.

For me, the Motown sound isn't too appealing. I'd take the NRA position if those were my two choices. I'd prefer to work for Gun Owners of America myself.

Not really.I mean, I listen to it, and I think it's swell, but I'm no fanatic or connoisseur. And my job probably wouldn't involve the actual music too much. It would involve loading 50 year old tapes into a computer.

Summer teaching? Something like $3,600 for six weeks. I think I get some sort of pathetic raise every year. Anyway, once the regular checks run out in July, it's enough to scrape through the summer.
