A delegation of nine state legislators from Sonora was in Tucson on Tuesday to say Arizona's new employer sanctions law will have a devastating effect on the Mexican state.
At a news conference, the legislators said Sonora - Arizona's southern neighbor, made up of mostly small towns - cannot handle the demand for housing, jobs and schools it will face as illegal Mexican workers here return to their hometowns without jobs or money.

There's a word that means, "no matter how crazy an idea you make up, reality is crazier." That word is how I feel right now.

Poll to follow?

I can see this as being a major problem for Sonora. They've allowed their economy to become reliant on an area of business they don't control, and now it's stepped up and bitten them.

I have no sympathy, really.

all of which overlooks the minor little detail that it would have, could have, should have, been a thriving agricultural economy until america stole its water, somewhere arround a little over a century ago.

then now there's nafta making economic refugees of farmers further south who HAD had a viable and environmentally friendly way of life up until then too.

closing borders is stabbing a knife into the back of people 'trade aggreements' (which really mean letting corporate economic intrests get away with wholesale bloody murder litterally) have already beaten over the head.

They haven't closed the borders. They're just saying that people who are employing illegal immigrants now face real penalties.

This will not affect legal immigrants one iota. I can't honestly say I give a damn about criminals.

I don't think it's Arizona's responsibility to sort out Mexico's problems.

"Devastating"? Good! I certainly hope so.

Maybe "devastating" enough to start forcing change in that corrupt Turd-World crapcan country's deliberate policies of exporting its own poverty so that the leadership and the bigshots can retain power, and supporting reconquista.

Props to Arizona. The other 49 should follow Arizona's example.

I don't think the law would be very relevant in most states. California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, really.

USA should annex Sonora and rename it to something like New Arizona. *nod*

You'd be suprised. There are lots of illegals even up here.
