Because he is a public figure? I do not even know him personally and although I was born in Britain I have left it behind a long time ago, so my attachment is limited.

Yes but obviously some people do care if he dies, hence why they would be worried.

Not much, but he is an influential or at least very important figure, it's just sometimes a bit odd to have someone you've been used to for so long suddenly die.

People die all the time. Absence of worry does not necessarilly equate a desire for his death. Unless his death would bring about some consequence accross the world to me, then I fail to see why I should worry about him any more than I would worry about any other stranger who were to fall ill. Being born into a certain familly does not qualify him to recieve my concern.

Perhaps, since it was brought to my attention, I will extend my well wishings for his recovery, but his bieng in the hospital is not something I will lose sleep over.

Call me cold but I don't have the capacity to wring my hands in worry over every individual knocking on death's door.

When the OP says worrying, I don't think he literally means he will be up all night fearing for his well being.

When the OP says worrying, I don't think he literally means he will be up all night fearing for his well being.

Then I await the OPs explination of his worry. Is he a a high enough political figure that his death would bring about wide spread unrest or is he simply a member of the royal family?

If it's the latter, then I agree with United Beleriand; Why is this worrying?

The latter.

He’s husband to Queen Liz, but he doesn’t have any tangible political power.

I only hope Prince Philip can return to us as he wanted to; as a deadly virus, in order to contribute something to solve overpopulation.

Isn't that kind of like having a favorite colon polyp? I'll never understand the obsession some brits have with a coterie of overfed, inbred, entitled, racist animals whose only purpose on earth is to remind everyone of a romanticized period of human history in which some people were worth more than others because the right cousins fucked.

You don't have to be a socialist to think that the figurative (and in Philip's case, occasionally literal) worship of arrogant pricks is disgusting. Another racist old man from a racist line has a chest infection and people who have no connection other than some romantic notion of royalty are getting all worried. Yes, truly terrible that us common folk might not be wetting ourselves with terror at the prospect of our betters dying and leaving us without their vital guidance.

So? He was a middle man, a war bureaucrat. He never made it past first lieutenant and the closest he ever came to combat was when a boat he was on was disabled during the German invasion of Crete (a battle in which the heavy lifting was done by infantry and a citizen's revolt). His service during the invasion of Sicily isn't even worth note. The most important thing he was a part of during the war was being present in the area during the Japanese surrender. Hell, the last half of his military career was spent teaching other children of privilege how to lead little people to their deaths.

I find it very funny that the people of NSG thing they should be equal to royalty. I'm sorry that their family has been a million times more successful than yours will ever be. No need to declare that they should all drop dead because you're a democracy nut. Sure, they're born into it. I doubt you would be complaining if you were born into a successful family. I would hope not anyways.

Quick glance at wiki shows he made it to commander before the Queen ascended the throne and he got given additional honorary roles.

Battle of Cape Matapam, convoy escort duties. Fairly standard war career for a navy officer I'd say.

Hey, I've been in NHS hospitals a lot, including a 3-month stint due to pluracy, and I'm MRSA free. And without C Difficile, either.

It's not that prevalant, nor dangerous, outside of the really poor quality hospitals, a lot of which are being fixed up.
