What a collection!

BERLIN (Reuters) - A German man was such an avid collector of weapons and other paraphernalia that he ran out of space at home and had to sleep in a hotel, neighbors said following the 71-year-old's death.

Executors found an arsenal of weaponry and assorted goods at the man's two-story home in the western city of Aachen, police said on Wednesday.

"There were 71 guns -- one for each year of his life," said police spokesman Paul Kemen. "He also had 41 cases of ammunition and five walking sticks fitted with retractable blades."

Heiner Hautermans, a reporter at the Aachener Nachrichten paper, said neighbors related how the man, who lived alone, collected everything from clothing to garden tools and watches.

"The house was stuffed to the rafters," he said. "By the end, the neighbors said he had to sleep in a hotel sometimes because there was no more room."

One neighbor sometimes handled up to 14 deliveries of goods a day for the man when he was out, he added. "At some point she got fed up with it."

No heirs have yet been found for the man, police said.

Really? You sure it's the NME you're reading? ;)

I collect...erm, nothing. Well, not really. I kinda collect 65daysofstatic releases, etc. But that's just me being a (big) fan. The closest I come to collecting anything is t-shirts - I must have about 50-70.

I said pretty good. Without it I don't think I would have heard about Lightspeed Champion, who is now one of my favourite acts.

I like browsing t-shirts...but I don't have the money to purchase them... :(

Well, of course it's controlled. Doesn't mean it's illegal, does it? The fact that you need a drivers license doesn't mean it's illegal to own a car, after all. ;)

I collect experiences and memories to fashion into stories for when I can no longer collect new ones.

That and groin strikes. I seem to be building up quite a collection of those. Why just a couple days ago I got kneed twice by a friend during an impromptu wrestling match as revenge for some imagined slight(somebody dropped ice cream down the back of his pants and the circumstantial evidence of my proximity and empty cone were apparently enough for a conviction).

Because Europe hates freedom, and Germany is scared that giving its population guns will lead to them shooting at Jews or something. Obviously. Don't you remember?

And no, countries where there are legally guns = Most
Countries there are not guns = relatively few (UK being the big example)

Australia too. Well, almost. Every time there's a shooting, they restrict guns more. They're seeing "Too many guns still, ban them!" when what's really happening is "They're going to shoot each other, no matter how much you restrict guns".

Crazygonuts massacres in the more backwater end of Australia (err Tanzania) have VERY MUCH GONE DOWN since gun laws there were tightened, though. Worth it.

When I was a wee one I collected these little plastic spaceships that came from famous movies/TV series. I had the whole Federation Fleet lined up on my shelf :D.

I would trade with kids who had the same kind of collection I did: One of my spare Borg Cubes for a hard to find model of the TIE Interceptor, that sort of thing.

Of course I collected other things that were more "faddish": Coins, Beenie Babies (I still have the hedgehog, the only one I really liked) and of course...Poke'mon Cards, hundreds of 'em. But, like I said, these we just fads. I always liked my little ships. Made me into the geek I am today.

I'm not sure where they are now: probably tucked under a bed in my old room. Fond memories though.

Today I mostly collect manga and video games...though I actually USE those things rather than just display them :p.

*Side Note: Any person today who grew up in the mid to late '90s who said they "weren't into Poke'mon: didn't collect the cards, didn't play the games, didn't watch the show" is a fucking LIAR! Live up to your childhoods you cowards!

Same here. I have coins from various European and African countries, as well as some from Mexico, Canada, and Australia. My oldest one is from the mid-1830s and is Belgian, IIRC. I even have a few from *groan* Nazi Germany, which I keep only for historical purposes.
