Crazy Idea

Hey! I was reading some of the RP threads and thought that they were great.

I have a fictitious civilization that I will sometimes write about, but it has a few problems. The first one is it's really too powerful. This is an odd problem, since it doesn't actually fight wars, anymore. It "spanks" civilizations that think going to war with them is a good idea, instead, which is a kind of mass virtual torture technology. It teaches the nation what could happen if they actually tried something so stupid. {Blushes} It amounts to torture because the fictitious race, which I call the Essians, often traumatize the people whom they are showing this to.

Oddly, people who are unsupportive of war are not so traumatized. {Blushes}

Anyway, they have a large, culturally rich and diverse population, and much more power and influence {when they so choose} than I ever hope to establish in Nation States. Their government is almost anarchic, and they have a very small population that weilds most of the ruling power.

The ruling class are unique in that they have the ability to know everything that occurs within their "sphere of influence." And by everything, I mean everything.

Because they know everything that happens, they can draw conclusions on how things are linked together, and thus predict what will happen. This gives them a certain precognizance that only enhances their power.

In short, the rulers of this nation do not have to make rules or act in any way harshly to keep things in line. Often, they do very subtle things that have long term effects on everything around them, in spite of it's apparent irrelevence at the time they take action.

For example, one leader is known to effect huge changes by doing things as simple as putting a quarter on the sidewalk.

I realize now that RP'ing these people the way I would like would be impossible, since I can't know what they know. But it is fun to write about them from time to time.

Unfortunately, my imagination is limited, so creating situations that would be interesting to read about with these guys is oft a bit beyond me. {Blushes}

I'd love to hear any of your thoughts or ideas on these guys. They really don't have a weakness, in any real physical sense. They have the power to Undo Creation, which is what makes them as powerful as they are. But this also makes them able to fight by not fighting at all ... which is kinda' weird.

They have no internal economy, at least, not an economy that most people would recognize. They value personal freedoms {as long as they do not negatively impact others} very highly. Their only real form of "currency" is thought itself ... ideas, discussions, and the like. They focus more on friendship, love and family than on material goods, since material goods have no real value for them. As a rule, they would colonize {if that's the word, since they really don't have any "established," "formal" cities} barren, unhospitable worlds which will never support life of any kind according to their own research {their leaders}. However, some will spend time on planets with local civilizations, whether those nations are aware of them or not, just for entertainment's sake.

The Essians can take on the appearance of any other life form, and are excellent hackers, so they can forge an existence in other nations very covertly and convincingly. They never do this for malignant purposes, but more for entertainment or social purposes.

They can usually live among those who know of them openly, however.

Those who are unaware of them will remain unaware of them until such time as they wish to be known. Technology tied to their ultimate weapon, their ability to Undo Creation, allows for this.

They span "dimensions," which, in their universe, exist literally in parallel in space. To explain this better, their society is so vast, they have literally come across billions and billions of Earths, all of them different in some way from their counterparts, but all recognizably Earth.

If any of you have any idears, I'd love to hear them. :D

Oh! Please be sure that I've left out a lot of information on these guys. I'm evil. Mwahahahahaha!
