I keep hearing about this 4chan; I'm starting to become curious. I have a feeling this will turn into one of those horror movies where the wise old posters keep saying, "Don't go on that site, ye wee youngin'!" but I go on it anyway with my friends and then demons are unleashed and we all get possessed, one by one, till morning comes and I'm the only one left standing. No, you don't get it. The point of that song, is to start one up. It starts me up. That's the title. "Start Me Up." As in, "If I play you, song, you should start me up." Which it does. This song literally can "Start me Up". I have one of those iHomes, and my wake-up playlist consists of the Continental Drift Intro from the Flashpoint CD, and then I have the machine "Start Me Up" with said track from the same CD. Since it's the same play order as on the CD, the changeover is so fast it makes you think it's one song, especially at 7AM. I use that song to "Start Me Up" every weekday.

Back in the day living in a ghet- uh, high-density, low-income neighborhood, I used to jog a lot, running three miles from my house to the library and then back, jumping over potholes and bums and avoiding Bloods and crackheads all along the way. For my birthday, my best friend gave me a CD player and a CD, Eminem's "Curtain Call". Taking the sort of people here into account, I know I'm going to get ripped for this, but that album got me pumped up. I don't think I really cared for rap, but I found some of the songs were funny, some were sad, and some were absolutely powerful. All of them flowed and blended together to give me the raw, determined and angry energy to make it through my daily gauntlet.

I won't rip you. I don't own any Eminem, but I've heard enough to recognize his skill in both craft and delivery. He can be a spot-on parodist and funny when he wants to be, too. Resonant, commanding voice and an excellent sense of rhythmic ebb and flow and syncopation. In fact, "Lose Yourself" is a pretty good pump-up track.

It's all case by case for me. For example, yesterday I had to attend my annual "personnel department workshop", where the company I work for has small groups employees come in for what amounts to a polite dressing down to follow the rules, a couple of updates on procedural items, and an over view of the company's performance, all of which could be handled in a fax or e-mail. The song on my personal stereo for the train trip was David Allen Coe's "Take This Job And Shove It". :) (What? The guy who runs the workshop is a cephelopenis.)

'An' hero?

It's a Brit. thing.

Many varieties undergo h-dropping, making harm and arm homophones. This is a feature of working-class accents across most of England, but was traditionally stigmatised (a fact the comedy musical My Fair Lady was quick to exploit) but less so now.[6] The accents of Northumberland, Tyneside, and parts of Norfolk are an exception to this rule. In the past, working-class people were often unsure where an h ought to be pronounced, and, when attempting to speak "properly", would often preface any word that began with a vowel with an h (e.g. "henormous" instead of enormous, "hicicles" instead of icicles); this was referred to as the "hypercorrect h" in the Survey of English Dialects, and is also referenced in literature (e.g. the policeman in Danny the Champion of the World).

'Pump up the jam' by technotronic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSKTeKi-zfM) comes to mind, because it has pump up in the title and it has a beat and because it's classic. (don't watch if you can't stand colors)

Other than that I don't really know, I swim, a swimmingpool isn't the best place to listen to your ipod. Other than that I don't really do sports unless dancing, but that's on whatever the dj plays of course.

Well I don't really listen to music when I'm running or rowing. When I'm running, I prefer to kind of focus inwards on how my body is feeling, I'm a decent runner and I find it helps me push myself a bit more. I don't listen to music when I'm rowing for the same reason, but also because there no practical way to listen to music and row at the same time.
However when it comes to erging, my boathouse has a number of cds for the stereo. Its mostly techno/dance/ beats (delete as appropriate) with a mixture of other stuff thrown in because a good beat is essential for erging. Its weird because I'm not really into that sort of music, but if I hear any of those songs I'm just transported back to erg sessions.
Examples of stuff on the stero would include:
Kryptonite- 3 doors down
Enimen
Daft Punk
Feeder
Final Countdown
Scooter (some dutch dj,harder..faster....SCOOTER!! just brings back memories of 5ks)
Oddly enough when I'm doing hill sprints, I have a tendencies to sing Phenomon by TFK to myself.

"I'm American" by Queensryche. It's the only exceptional song on Mindcrime II, but it gets me going pretty good.
"Wake Up" by Rage Against the Machine is good too, as is their cover of "Renegades of Funk"

DragonForce are hard to listen to just as an album, because the whole thing just sounds like one long meandering power thrash metal song. But they're great to play when you're running.

Sonata Arctica are good for running too, though I'd say their songs are more like actual songs than DragonForce's.

System of a Down's angry first few albums are pretty good for pumping you up.

And anything by Iron Maiden is IMO genius.

Bit of Eminem wouldn't hurt either.

Dance music like Cascada is good too. Not great music on its own but would work for exercising.

Tell me about it. Plus if we are talking about pumping up as in excersing music, I don't think heavy metal in general is very good for it. Its too complex and most of it is either ignored and it ends up being distracted. The beat is also very very fast which isn't so useful. Things like rap and beats tend to be better because they have a simple beat thats pretty easy to tune into to.
