So, as you all know, I live in the South, in the state of North Carolina. Well from time to time, I like to cruise the personals and what passes for Personals on Craiglist to see what the action is like. Good night this state has alot of pregnant women and single moms. Now if the woman is 30, and is divorced then yea I can see that. However most of these women are like 18 to 20 living at home with their parents because apparently the "dad" ran out. It just seem this state has a huge population of single mothers, which is probably a ratio of 1 to 2.

By now, most of you are asking "Where is he going with this." Well I also notice that our sex education here kinda...sucks. Christianity (mainly Southern Baptist, yay...) is still a huge part of the community, and I just got to ask if our schools, and our parents just stop with the self delusion that abstaince works, and start teaching safe sex, which includes condoms and birth control pills, then maybe we wouldn't see so many single mothers. Of course I think 2/3rd of the single mothers here would actually have a family if the "Dad" actually manned up and took responsibility for his actions and his creation.

Anyways, that's just an observation of mine, I now return you to your normal programming on NSG.

You forgot to add "on sites such as the 'Personals' on Craiglist, which of course I know to be utterly non-representative and therefore not fit to have any further conclusions as to the whole populace being based on it".

Nah, seriously, I'm all for an upped sex-ed program, and while I never did verify it myself, I certainly heard of statistics showing a positive correlation between the respective prevalences of abstinence-only / no sex-ed programs and high(er) teenage pregnancies. The only beef I have was with your own little somewhat peculiar 'statistic' you mentioned there.

The solution is removing the prudery surrounding sexuality and stop treating sexuality as something dark and mysterious, it's a natural biological function and must be taught in that way.

I think it's safe to say that those who are properly educated and mature regarding sexuality are more responsible, and those who whose knowledge comes from a mishmash of cultural and popular innuendo and repressive pseudo-sex education are going to be less intelligent about it.

I am... its mostly a matter of personal preference, not because I look down on them. I'm 24 years old, can barely support MYSELF, and still have some very childish behaviors. I am not ready to become a parent to my own child let alone someone elses. The other reason being I had step fathers in my life and I resented some of them just because I percieved them as trying to take me away from my real dad.

the actual downside being that its almost impossible to get babysitters these days so your dating life with a single mother is pretty limited.
