An unusual clash between a 6-foot (1.8m) alligator and a 13-foot (3.9m) python has left two of the deadliest predators dead in Florida's swamps.

The Burmese python tried to swallow its fearsome rival whole but then exploded.

The remains of the two giant reptiles were found by astonished rangers in the Everglades National Park.

And here's the pic:

So, to make sure this isn't spam...has anyone on NSG had a similar experience?

Fail.

It was on BBC's top read - I didn't think to look at the date.

EDIT: I've put this in for deletion. No point wasting time with this, no?

Speaking as a Zoology graduate, I hadn't seen that story before and thank you for bringing it to my attention.

This is ancient. And this is like the third time someone's whacked it up on NSG and it's been called old news.

I guess the python's eyes were bigger than its stomach.

Y'know what? I don't give a flying fuck what you two think. I'd never seen the story before, and I was GLAD to see it. Not just for the "whoa" factor, but also as a terrific distraction from the litany of religion threads.

So you can lose the superiority complex because you've seen the story before. So the hell what? I don't come to NSG for breaking news. I come to see and read stuff I don't get from the usual sources, and look, here it is. Now if the OP had been foaming at the mouth about the story and pic and had gone off on some kind of jeremiad about it being a harbinger of the end of the world or something, then I could see calming him down with how old the story was. But he didn't. It was just a cool idea and a rather unusual photograph. So lay off.

As a scientificly inclined layman who's heard about this story multiple times over the last few years, I'm surprised. A zoologist who's online enough to be playing NS should be more up to date than a layman...

How about loosing the superiority complex yourself. Pointing out that this is an old hat story that's been posted here before isn't grounds for such a reaction. In fact, from your comment RE the recicling of religious threads, it could well be viewed the same way - how many times do we need to review this three year old "news" story.

Are you serious? You honestly think that one thread repeating itself three times in NSG is an actual problem? How many times? As many times as people who haven't seen the story still go "whoa, that's weird", like I did in this third iteration of the thread.

For the record, I didn't complain about the recycling of religion threads, I was merely saying that snake-eats-alligator is a welcome distraction...absurdly so, in fact.

Intangelon, please tone down the language in the future. PG-13 involves a few less profanities. Noone was seriously attacking the original poster, you don't need to defend him from anything.
