I've been looking for a free source on what the tax burden as a percentage of GDP was in early America, most specifically from 1789 and soon after (though information in latter years is welcome.) Would anyone happen to have a link to a source with details?

I think the above may not answer the question being looked into, but can help in looking for the answer. Good luck.
