What will we miss about the 00s?

You know how people miss stuff from decades? Like... TV shows or music or just general "stuff to do" that people stop doing after awhile.

What do you think people will miss about the 00s?

I've been thinking about it and I'm not really sure, because I dont see any of the stuff the 00s introduced leaving - I think youtube and blogs will be popular until the end of the internet.

Maybe we'll miss the internet still being new, and discovering new sites. Maybe in ten or so years time there'll only be a handful of huge "established" websites that everyone will go to.

Depending on how these elections go, we might miss the next American President. If things go really badly, we'll probably miss being able to turn a lightbulb on anytime we want.

Plus, I think I'm going to miss Scrubs.

Thoughts?

Yeah, I don't think I'll really miss anything, being young I guess... that went pretty well, and was alot of fun, but no reason to assume I can't have fun just cause I'm an old fart now.

I struggle to think of anything good i'll miss.
However the experience of being rejected for various things is invaluable for me so i guess i'd call the 00s as my necessary part of life to get better for later, a training ground for ideas if you will.

not much.

there are lots of, or at least some, things i miss about every decade i was alive prior to 1980, but computers and this internet are i think, just about the only things of redeaming value that i know of to have come along since then.

the thing they did for new years of 2000 was cool. if the rest of the decade could have remained like that it would have been wonderful. instead, i think its been pretty much the most crap decade of my life.

the 80s at least gave us personal computers and in the 50s we still had trains and trolleys and places where your shelter didn't have to be a slave to building codes. the 60s and 70s were, in america, something of a golden age. but its pretty much been going down hill around here ever since.

maybe for some other parts of the world the 2000s have been good, i don't know, where i am and have been, well living in this little house with me and my wife, i really appreciate the kind of landlord we've got and all, but even that i'd have been happier to have been living in it by myself out in the boonies somewhere instead of where i am.

no i really can't think of anything unique to this decade i'll miss about it at all.
the 80s and 50s both came close to being as bleak, but each had something, as noted to redeam themselves. this 2000s decade, i can't think of a thing.

It's one of those things that gets funnier the farther away from it you are, like a septic tank explosion.

I'm not sure what I'll miss. I'm guessing The Simpsons are going to go off the air in the next year or two, so I'll miss that if it happens. I can't think of anything more important, though.

My Youth.
Now that I am getting older and the 2000's are over it is time I stopped living the party life and only worrying about if I will have enough money for the weekend. Time I settled down, get a proper job. That is what I will miss just being able to laze about pop on to NS forums or play the play station for hours on end, not anymore time to mature a bit more and start doing something useful. A warning to the young ones out there live it up while you can becuase by the time you to my age (22) you can't just rely on your parents all the time and sleep off the friday night binge drinking session live large and hard

And a deregulated labour market of course in Australia we had that from 1996 but is now going to be abolished, as well as the second most successful PM in Australia since 1945 PM Howard.

Christ on a stick, I started taking work seriously as opposed to viewing it as funding for my weekends of fun when I was about, oh I don't know, about 28/29 I guess.

I moved from country to country doing odd jobs here and there until I was 26.

You have the choice to plunge yourself into work right now or enjoy the freedom of having a look around life for a while.

I'll miss my 20's, so far my 30's are all well and good but for different reasons.

Well I am finishing my degree at the end of this year and would like to begin serious work.

After i finished year 12 I went to Europe for 5 months and travelled through France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland before working full time for another year and a half so i have been around i also travelled a lot when I was a kid with my parents all around Oz and the US so i have been around and i love travelling during the major breaks of Uni gone to places around Australia.

And i would like to do that again and continue travelling and seeing the world(I have only seen a small percentage), but i want know that I have a career laid out and know where I am going, I am hoping to be employed by certain companies as they have a policy where you can work for four years and take the fifth year off at the same pay rate, that is when I would like to travel for a long time and I wouldn't mind living in a different country that has a strong difference in culture.

My main point with my post was the fact that when you are in your teen years you don't have to worry much and just sort of take life as it comes now a bit older and a bit more responsibilty you can't live the same life which I am sure you understand having much more life experience then me

I dunno, my 20's were all about the freedom to choose, I could choose where I went, what I wanted to do and when I wanted to do it.

I joined an NGO straight out of university, aid work in India, after which I traveled the world and I suspect that having that NGO, as well as working in a variety of countries and industries, greatly improves my CV compared to jumping into a career.

Maybe that's your experience but I wouldn't be so sure about offering that out as advice to teenagers. Many people found that after struggling with insecurities and depression during their teens, it was only in their mid twenties that they could start "taking life as it comes".

+1

I shall remember it as a decade when stupid people who have no idea about real world politics and economics voted out the one person who had the balls to do what was right, even though he knew that people would not like it in the short term.

Now we have Rudd. Already he has ignored his election promises, he has destroyed the one thing that would have got this country through the global recession that is coming. He has cut defense spending and is wasting the money on crappy 2020 conferences which are just going to cost and arm and a leg, and they will reach the end of the week and say, "hmm.. we have nothing to change". He has gone and signed on to the Kyoto protocol which will essentially demolish the economy whilst doing absolutely nothing for the environment on a global scale. Meanwhile he has done nothing to put a stop to interest rate rises and continues to blame his inaction on the previous government.

Oh of course and I do what I choose to do.

What is the NGO?

And I applaud your aid work in India something which I once considered as my school was a donor to Mother Theresa's orphanage amongst other such institutions in India, and certainly it does improve your CV. But during my time before uni when I was working I was a member of the State Emergency Service (SES), basically it is a volunteer organisation with sponsorship from the state government in which lost people are found injured people in the bush are rescued storms and floods that occur we would go out and attempt to save houses and people, not to mention the team spirit especially when you got back to base from call out and there was plenty of free beer for all.

As you say horses for courses and you yourself seemed to have experienced a good life. Maybe I am only a bit more nervous and have written such things in my first post as i am unsure what the future holds and am just hoping to have something stable and am worrying about it too soon, who knows?

I know I said take head young ones or something to that effect but I did not mean it to be what you should do nor was it really serious advice, maybe it is something to take into consideration but I wouldn't give people advice without knowing the exact details. Everybody has lead a different life and have had different experiences there is very rarely only one answer or one way to do something.
