She is doing a WCCC My Hour on 106.9 WCCC right now (meaning she gets to pick all the music on the station for the entire hour). From what I've heard so far, she sounds pretty comfortable on the radio, although I think this is her first time doing anything like this. She told me that she was going to be picking some songs that she likes to play on Guitar Hero, too.

So, to make this thread not blog-like, has anyone ever had any radio time or won a radio contest? What was it for, and did you have fun while it was going on?

I haven't, but a local band I live with get interviews from local stations from time to time. It's pretty weird to hear people you know in real life in FM form. Pretty hillarious too.

Yeah I have. Had a good friend of mine that was a producer for KISW in Seattle. We use to go in on Friday or Saturday nights and sit with the DJ during the show. I did a couple small speaking parts between songs every now and then. Wasn't anything big but still a thrill. At least I thought it was.

I can only imagine. If something like that happened to me, I'd have to have surgery to remove the silly grin from my face. :D

BTW, here's the URL for the station. If you want, you can listen to the broadcast online.

We were usually buzzed when we went into the studio. So we already had that stupid grin. Anyway it was years ago.

aw man...I wish I was at home right now to have heard it...

my dad was on the radio quite a few times...you Connecticut people might remember back when Dee Snider had a show on WMRQ (104.1)...well, my dad was Doc B (he gave Nick a prostate exam on air and all that good stuff). Actually, several of my letters were read on the show (under "MiniB"...my sister was "Lil'B)

Wasn't even thinking about the wife. She is on the radio frequently with a station called KVI in Seattle. It is a conservative talk radio station. Whenever they get onto Muslim subjects she calls them. They put her on the radio all the time.

Yes, when I was 12 I won the Beatles Blue album by being the 9th caller on WSAI in Cincinnati. I was so excited and even then (1973) that album was $40 in stores so it was a big prize for a little kid. ;)

Yeah they do. They are very nice to her. We have met two of the hosts at a function they invited us out to.

cool. the treatment of callers on radio talk shows seems so uneven and unpredictable. sometimes the hosts are nice sometimes they are assholes.

I have called into the local talk show stations a few time. I have always wanted to start my own internet radio talk show dealing with aviation. However, I don't think people would find my voice pleasing.

I DJ'd for 5 years. Played just about everything i could hope to play, including live artists, personal stuff, conglomerations and the like. Good times.
Not much $ though.

Uhm ... sigworthy?
Dr. Cameron: Sex COULD kill you. Do you know what the human body goes through when you have sex? Pupils dilate, arteries constrict, core temperature rises, heart races, blood pressure skyrockets, respiration becomes rapid and shallow, the brain fires bursts of electrical impulses from nowhere to nowhere, and secretions spit out of every gland, and the muscles tense and spasm like you're lifting three times your body weight. It's violent. It's ugly. And it's messy. And if God hadn't made it UNBELIEVABLY fun, the human race would have died out eons ago.
[She pauses to catch her breath]
Dr. Robert Chase: [He is speechless]
Dr. Cameron: Men are lucky they can only have one orgasm. Know that women can have an hour long orgasm?
Dr. Eric Foreman: [enters]
Dr. Cameron: [as if nothing had just occurred] Hey Foreman. What's up?

When I was going to college in Iowa, I worked as a DJ for the campus radio station for two years. First, as co-host of the Insomniac Block from Midnight to 2 am on Wednesday mornings. The following year my friend and I initiated Friday Night Frenzy, from 10 pm to Midnight. FNF was quite popular, with comedy skits, guests, call-ins and contests.

It was quite fun...although I quickly learned that drinking alcohol and talking on the radio (even at 1am) do NOT mix! :p

I am the press manager of a radio station. I also have a short show of my own, called "Gest and movement" (Gesto y movimiento) from 11:30 am to 12:00, mostly about movies, concerts, theater and other cultural paraphernalia. I read the news three times per day, at 8:00 am, 1:00 pm and 7:50 pm, and also the headlines at 7:00 am, 12:00, and 7:00 pm, from monday to friday every week of the year. I also record audio advertisements on a periodic basis, although it is more a collaboration than anything else.

Apart from some unrelated works for a newspaper and a magazine, that is my main wage earner, so yes, I could say I do some radio time, I spend here 8 hours of day time. My office at the radio is almost my second room, and I really learned after some time to be comfortable in front of a microphone, although I don't have as much experience as you may think, I have just 3 years in this business. Formerly, I worked for a national newspaper as a regular journalist.
