LONDON (AP) British Prime Minister Gordon Brown says Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has said he is prepared to hold discussions on Tibet with the Dalai Lama.

The premier told me that, subject to two things the Dalai Lama has already said — that he does not support the total independence of Tibet and that he refrains from violence — that he would be prepared to enter a dialogue with the Dalai Lama," Brown said.

It looks like they may enter into a dialogue. Hopefully they do and do it soon and that the violence stops.

I saw this in the news earlier. Odds are, this is a face saving measure to counter negative press about Tibet because the Olympics are close.

Although where Hu intends to hold the talks makes all the difference, given that some noise from China includes accusations that the Dalai Lama is responsible for the riots.

Well, the new upper and middle class in the Chinese society being eager of finding their roots and seeking sometimes more spirituality, it's possible the PCR and the Tibetan Buddists find someday an agreement...

But I don't think it would happen soon.

I doubt it has anything to do with the Olympics. Every country has pretty much already said that they dont intend to boycott them.

It might be a face saving measure however. Or they might just want him to show up in China so they can "deal" with him:p
