George Carlin must be tickled pink. For those of you who don't know, the 30 year old decision was against him regarding is 'Seven Words' routine and whether a station could be fined for broadcasting it over the radio.
we'll all see what we'll see when we'll see it.
the f.c.c. HAS better things to do with its resources then to try and regulate morality, which, as far as i'm concerned is itself an immoral act.
like for instance, it's considerably more signifigant responsibility to keep media sources that portend to provide information diverse enough to be free and honest, upon which rests the entire viability of the concept of democratic governance on any more then a tribal and village scale.
a duty in which it has, under pseudo-concervative regemes, been thoroughly remiss of.
its origeonal mandate was, and remains, allocation of the frequency spectrum, and to bring some sort of fairness to its proccess of doing so.
policing WHAT gets broadcast was never intended to be its primary responsibility and need not, ought not, to remain so.

If you want to listen to the original routine, you can find it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daEo6WGF_VE
It starts at the 4:00 mark or so. Enjoy the nostalgia(and the irony of getting in trouble for a routine questioning the reason you got in trouble before you got into it). :)
It continues into part 5 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAhShnklAts

This could be quite a year for the Supreme Court, we could have a revival both of the 1st amendment vis a vis beating the FCC and of the 2nd by way of Heller and DC's abominable law.

Yep. We're either going to see an evolution in how our nation lives up to the ideals it was founded on, or another few decades of not. It'll certainly be interesting. Especially in a presidential election year.

An evolution? Surely this is too boring given how America was founded.
You should have a revolution, like the good old days.

That's a great way to get yourself nailed to something. *nod*
Rather than pull the FCC's teeth, let's do away with it altogether.

Nah. Somebody has to make sure my tv doesn't go apeshit when my neighbor makes a phonecall. *nod*

Brian: What will they do to me?
Ben the Prisoner: Oh you'll probably get away with crucifixion.
Brian: CRUCIFIXION?
Ben the Prisoner: Yeah, first offense.

Do you really think the FCC is needed for that?

Well, it doesn't have to be them, but I'd like it to get done.
Do you really think the FCC is needed for that?
that IS what its supposed to be for. and yes, it does set the standards that are supposed to prevent that from happening.

The FCC is supposed to keep communications running smoothly without interference... Censorship is, as I remember it, unconstitutional, and how the hell a federally-sanctioned bureau can bypass the constitution and censor everything left and right, we may never know.
Well, actually, it's already known (vote buying, pandering, you name it). But the way I worded it sounded more dramatic.

Kind of like how the RIAA was originally an association that set standards for recording, recorded media, and packaging for recorded media... That eventually turned into an all-encompassing juggernaut that even deals with legal issues (and likes to do things regardless of what the law says).

Yeah, well they're corporate. They have an excuse. The FCC is an appointed government body and they have no business interpreting the Constitution.
ACTIVIST JUDGES! THEY'RE TRYING TO PUT PORN ON THE AIR!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just to get that out of the way before it happens.

I also like this older Python selection:
I bet they won't play this song on the radio
I bet you they won't play this new (bleep) song
It's not that it's (bleep) or (bleep) controversial
Just that the (bleep)ing words are`awfully strong
You can't say (bleep) on the radio
Or (bleep) or (bleep) or (bleep)
You can't even say I'd like to (bleep) you one day
Unless your're a doctor with a very large (bleep)
So I bet you they won't play this song on the radio
I bet you they daren't (bleep) well programme it
I bet you their (bleep)ing old Programme Directors
Will think it's a load of horse (bleep)
Guess you never saw "Suddenly Susan" then, eh? ;)
Actually... No, I haven't

An appointed body which decided that the airwaves are the one part of America NOT subect to the free speech provision of the First Amendment to the Constitution.
All because Reverend Donald Wildmon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Wildmon) can't figure out how to switch stations or turn the radio or TV off.
