Trouble in Chinese Client States

Since last summer, two reasonably passive client states of the Peoples Republic of China have experienced a significant degree of internal unrest. In both cases, the unrest has been, or is being, put down with a significant degree of military force. While clearly not insurrections comparable to those that brought down the client states of the USSR, what do you think this means for Beijing, and their policies in the region?

That their policies don't work properly, and they need some experience with dealing with riots e.g. not using tear gas and tanks to dissolve them.
What other states used to be under Chinese control?
I wonder if this reflects unease in Chinese trade in oil. (and where do they get their oil from? as in location.)

They have oil interests in Iran. Hence their reluctance to impose any sort of sanctions on Iran.
I'm not sure anything is going to change soon. I would be very surprised if China collapsed like the U.S.S.R.
