Here it comes...

I believe a worldwide depression is now quite likely.

I hope that all of you have some means of surviving such a catastrophe, I really do.

I feel that the next major shock after the collapse of banks burdened by the subprime loan crisis will be the world realization that OPEC isn't increasing production because THEY CAN'T.

Then all of the loans taken out on the basis of oil production predictions (essentially on the promise of oil that *might* exist in the ground will collapse in an even larger wave.

Surviving? It's not revelation, jeez! I doubt that there is going to be a 2nd great depression, but it's obvious that we're currently going downhill. Depressions come and go, let this one come, and I bet that within 5 years or so we'll be out of it.

So you're saying we shouldn't sell our current house (third of an acre) for that condo? ...do they let you have chickens at a condo? *frets*

has it really been so long since we had a recession that we are terrified of one? everyone will get through it even those who lose their jobs.

The zombie apocalypse will come before the depression, so I think it'll all work out.

the collapse of banks burdened by the subprime loan crisis will be the world realization that OPEC isn't increasing production because THEY CAN'T BE ARSED IN PROPPING UP A US ECONOMY THAT'S BEEN BLOWING UP THEIR CHUMS.
There we go, sorted.

We have a generation that has never seen one. The truth is one can profit from a recession.

They are everywhere I've ever lived. Chickens, that is. Not roosters.

Most of our land is used for something, our house, yards, a vineyard.

Yes, we do make wine.

Nah not worldwide, the economy here is just fine so far. The only ones having big trouble repaying their loans are teens who took cell phone loans on the spot during shopping sprees without checking the exorbitant rent rate. As for the oil, everyone seems to be going for flexifuel cars these days so we'll just drive on ethanol if gas becomes too expensive. Well it has already been too expensive for years, the current price is a bit over $2/liter.

That exempts you from paying property tax? Interesting.

so they have farm property tax in NC? (or is it SC?) some places (that dont care about preserving farm lands) assess all land as potential subdivisions.

Actually a farm is priced much different then a regular home. Vineyards are classified as farms. Also there may be an incentive on property taxes for certain agriculture. Especially if an area is trying to establish a certain product they will cut property taxes if you use your land for it.

I'm starting to wonder if I should invest my stash money in silver instead of using it as loan money for people who need money for prom...

I wonder if anyone has ever thought of buying lots of gasoline and storing it at your house. Then, when the price goes up or there'sa shortage, you have extra to sell or use. Although, I'd be selling since I'd have an electric car charged by solar panels on my future house...

zoning problems with gas storage.

plus its pretty volatile so its dangerous to keep in inadequate storage.

and its always dangerous to loan money to teens, they are notorious deadbeats. id go with silver.

You may do better investing in prostitutes. Apparently they go for big bucks now. Just get yourself a pimp hat, a pimp cane that doubles as a whacking stick and a Cadillac.
