Hi /NSG, I am having problems with both of my web browsers. I have done all the virus and spyware checking, so that is not a factor. The problem I have is that every few minutes my browser, both IE and FF, close randomly, for no reason. I'll have a few tabs open, or click on a link, and the browser will shut down on random. Should I perhaps re-download firefox again? or is there some sort of setting i can change to make it work properly?

I had this problem a couple months ago after installing Flash and when I uninstalled Flash the browsers didn't crash any more. Now I have installed Flash again without problems so I guess the version I tried back then had some bug my computer didn't like that is fixed in the current version.

If your problem is the same is impossible to tell as crashes without error messages leave no indication of their cause but it could be worth a shot to see if removing Flash helps.

Both shutting down is a bit odd.

1) did you run the spyware and virus checks a couple times? If stuff keeps poping up; then you have a generator program that is being missed.

2) Is the performance of the system bad?

3) Any new addons? Remove them temporarily.

4) Flash installed? Rip it out and install it again.

Hey,

I think the OS info, hardware details and latest re-install date may help but the problem may not be generic - hopefully someone can help though.

Cheerio!

I think that might be actually. I just updated the flash on my computer. I will try that out real quick.

Use FF until you crash. Try to reload the session, and see if you crash again. If you do crash again, your browser is having trouble with a specific type of content (probably because the plugin for that content is fucked).

The recent update to Flash 9 plugin seems a bit unstable, the previous one didn't seem to have the same crashing issues.

Should I perhaps

Nuke it from orbit? It's the only way to be sure.

I'd suggest buying a new computer.

Yes, I am technologically illiterate, in case you were wondering.

I know sometimes when I switch between program windows the bar at the bottom for Firefox disappears, meaning I have to either minimize the other windows or use "Alt+Tab" to re-access Firefox. Don't know if that helps.

Your poor computer's probably just trying to tell you it's exhausted from all the porn you've been d/l'ing. Lay off it for a while. Give it the intertubes a rest and free them up for someone else.
