Disclaimer: I don't believe in God, Gods, Divinities or any other Supreme Being thereof.

The classical answer to that question would be "God's abilities, what he/she can do cannot be fathomed or questioned by mere human beings - anything about him/her is beyond our understanding and our petty logical games" which would be the truth if there was or is an omniscient/omnipotent being, I guess...

Anyway, yes. Because:

1) Let's say, for argument, that God(s) exists
2) Such a being would have to be from another realm because there is no physical evidence to support said existance
3) Inter-dimensional beings cannot possibly interact with one another
4) Thus, any object made of matter within this universe would be "too heavy" for God(s) to lift; because it is of this dimension and thus cannot be 'lifted' by something that is of a non-physical dimension.

(My reasoning confuses me)

An omnipotent being could create a rock they couldn't lift, and then lift it. To us that's impossible, when you're omnipotent the word impossible ceases to be meaningful.

I suggest that he could make a rock heavy enough not to be able to move it. Exhibit A would be the Earth. Don't you think God would have hurled the Earth into the Sun long ago because of his creation(humans) gone wrong? Unless of course he is waiting until 2012??

Assuming god is omnipotent, then he could never make the rock in the first place. God can do anything possible, but making a rock that connot be lifted is impssible, so he cannot do it.

I thought the point of religion class was to teach kids a deep and well informed understanding of people with different beliefs than their parents so they don't end up having misconceptions like "All Muslims like to blow up themselves and others.". You misunderstand. I am neither criticizing the thread nor even the question.

My point is really to suggest a kind of answer to the paradox: "It doesn't matter." So God might be incompletely omnipotent in a certain sense. He is still functionally omnipotent--it makes no difference to us, to Him, or to anything else (except certain kinds of rocks.)

If God existed and created everything within the universe, then he presumably created logic and could transcend it with effortless ease by creating a rock that he could and couldn't carry at the same time. If God created logic, then I doubt he would force himself to abide by it when creating the rock, meaning he could perform two seemingly contradictory acts at the same time.

Think of it as double-think jesus style.
