China pissed off at Bjork

Singer Bjork yelled out "Tibet, Tibet" at a concert in Shanghai before singing a song called "Declare Independence". Needless to say, the Chinese government is peeved...

Talk of Tibetan independence is considered taboo in China, which has ruled the territory since 1951.

China's culture ministry said the outburst "broke Chinese law and hurt Chinese people's feelings" and pledged to "further tighten controls".

lolz...anyway the Chinese said that now they're gonna do this...

"We will further tighten controls on foreign artists performing in China in order to prevent similar cases from happening in the future," the ministry said in a statement on its website.

"We shall never tolerate any attempt to separate Tibet from China and will no longer welcome any artists who deliberately do this."

A spokeswoman from the culture ministry told the AFP news agency Bjork could be banned from performing in China if there was a repeat performance.

"If Bjork continued to behave like that in the future, we may consider never allowing her to perform in China," she said.

Her behaviour at Sunday's Shanghai concert has not been reported in the state-controlled Chinese media.

I like Bjork's music, especially her work with the Sugarcubes and her solo albums from Homogenic to last year's Volta. She is pretty mental though, but so are most of the best artists.

If anything is to happen I want to see Tibet gain independance. Shove it in the faces of that damned Chinese government. They will go to war and we are seriously going to screw up the Chinese military when we join in. No more games on China vs. U.S. anymore. And we have a new military base in Chinas side. I am liking this.

As well, if that is not enough look at how luny some of their leaders are. Methinks LG has a secret brainwashing camp somewhere where he makes various Chinese leaders into his luny zombie, slave, things.

Millions dead to prove a point about Tibet? You have any idea what real war is like? Doubt you do you would not be so cavalier about it.

The switch from gunshots to injections is a sign that China "promotes human rights now," says Kang Zhongwen

Classic....

Did read how they put to death four times as many prisoners as all the other worlds nations combined. The US still gets criticized for the death penalty.

Bjork is just like every other celebrity activist. A complete idiot. I doubt she knows anything about Tibet, except that it's a trendy subject. Tibet is fucked. The Chinese did a great job of doing what the Mexicans are doing in the Southwest. It's only a matter of time before they want "ethnic" independence, just like the squatters in Kosovo that we shamefully helped.

All organizers should ban political messages from concerts. Just like they should ban the pledge from sporting events and schools. It's just so stupid and out of place.

Bjork is just a hippy rebel who never grew out of her teenage years and supports every independence movement. Tibet independence is a joke. Could you imagine if someone came singing about Lakota or Scot independence?

She’s ace! Check her out.

Björk’s a wonderful singer, and she’s had a great string of albums that range in style; from electronica through jazz, all the way to hip-hop and orchestral. Her last-before-one album, Medúlla was comprised of nothing but live vocals and vocal samples.

Declare Independence! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGC0VVobi6E), off of her newest album Volta, was the song the Chinese government is pissed at, and some of my personal favourites are Bachelorette (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGC0VVobi6E), All is Full of Love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjAoBKagWQA&feature=related) and Hyperballad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPbrWtjTIno).

Aye, Bjork is awesome, though I wonder...

Greenland does, quite honestly, have the possibility of becoming independent. That they haven't quite taken that move is more because they don't seem to have the energy to do it. They certainly haven't tried yet (I mention Greenland, because the flag that is most visible in the video is that of Greenland).

As opposed to invading Iceland?

That would be awkward. I wonder how they'd reach Iceland. They can't quite send a land force through Eurasia and then sail from there. If they sail north around, it'll not only take a while, but their ships will need to be equipped to do it. If they sail south around Africa, it'll take even longer. That's not even mentioning that Iceland is pretty much in between the US and Europe, both of whom have an interest in defending their demilitarized friend.

Firstly, no state would invade a country because their singer was mean to them.

Secondly, even if China did determine to do so, it couldn't. I'd love to see it try to invade an island in the northern Atlantic.

Well, it doesn't have to be. A civil war in China would have disastrous results in terms of innocent civilians being caught in the middle. I was thinking maybe have a group of radical, western educated college students rally the nation and seize the communist congress in one fell swoop.

It would have to be more like a successful version of 1989, I guess.

Worthwhile how? They don't like her pro-independence stance, and don't want it spread around in China. Unless you're saying that they should send a goon squad to staple her mouth shut, which would cause a bigger mess, not letting her play in China seems to be the most expedient way.

I suppose they could take a book out of CoS and discredit her as mentally unstable or something.

The Chinese did a great job of doing what the Mexicans are doing in the Southwest. It's only a matter of time before they want "ethnic" independence, just like the squatters in Kosovo that we shamefully helped.
First of all the reason why the majority of Mexicans settle in southern U.S.A is because Mexico borders those regions and they aren't clamouring for independence in the regions where they are the majority.

The Han Chinese are being moved into Tibet by the Chinese government to secure their postion as the controlling group, not to split of part of it and leave the rest (all or nothing, and they have no plans on getting nothing).
