Whether you support the ban or not, you have to admit, this is fairly clever. :p

So, if I get this properly, would that be something Lunatic Goofballs would have thought of?

Smoking audience participation theater intrigues me.

every time I see the thread title I think of baseball bats :p
however I encourage good acting and art more than health so this is good, especially if it starts taking off
Fun way of going around the law. Though I'll keep smiling when that's closed down :)

Well, it 'beats' the ban that's specific to that state. It wouldn't apply to most other states/States.
That actually makes going to a bar sound like a good time.

Why would I? They're not breaking the law this way.
It works for Minnesota - mightn't work elsewhere. That's all I was saying.

I would complain. It breaks the law in my area.

I like it. :p
Not a whole lot else to say, but it is pretty nice to see sanity win for a change.

Meh, they should just deal with it.

That is cool, go Minesotta, i think all bars should offer a reduced price of drinks for people who can give acts and wear cool clothing.
I think a special week of acting should be done once a year, it would be inspiring.
I like it. :p

It's sane to suggest that everyone in your bar isn't really just sitting around, drinking and smoking and the like, they're actually all acting?

They're not "getting around" the law. They're following the law.
The law just doesn't have the results the legislators expected it would.

Correct ... Meaning I don't think it should have been passed.

Why not?
I am for the freedoms of the bars to decide for them selfs and for the patrons and employees to decide what is acceptable. I do not think the state should be in the habit of banning things because they are not healthy.
Yes I find it nice to be a bit smoke free but personally I chose to stay out of the ultra smoky dives and stay in the bars with better bands and ventilation.
Its also a pretty mean move in Minnesota ... I mean I have never smoked but watching all the people huddle outside the bar entrance when it is -30F looks painful ... also makes the sidewalks rather gross (I work "downtown").

People were bitching about smoking ban for bars and restaurants in NY before it happened, now that it has been in effect for a while you hear almost nothing about it anymore.
Doubt it will around here ... every winter when the temp drops ya are likely to get reminded of it

It was my understanding that the smoking bans were to protect the employees rather than to stop people smoking.

They tout it as the reason often but the actions at least in this area of the people pushing for it spoke otherwise.
Though any of the workers downtown I talk to had no problem with the smoking.
They actually miss the smoking days ... with bar attendance dropping they are making considerably less money. Got a lot of friends in local bands that dislike it for the same reason, its hard to get bookings sometimes at the smaller places anymore.
