BERLIN, Germany (AP) -- Germany's Defense Ministry said that it would take very seriously a parliamentary report indicating that the nation's soldiers are more overweight than average civilians, a spokesman said Wednesday.

Ministry spokesman Thomas Raabe said the ministry was carefully analyzing the report, issued Tuesday by the parliamentary commissioner for the military, Reinhold Robbe, and would provide a summary of its own findings by midyear.

"Soldiers are too fat, don't do enough sports, and don't pay attention to what they eat," Robbe wrote.

His report drew on a study conducted by sports physicians at the University of Cologne showing that 40 percent of all soldiers between the ages of 18 and 29 are overweight, compared with 35 percent of German civilians the same age.

No offense Germany, but I thought this was kinda funny to read about. It's not all that unlogical. Currently, most people smart enough to avoid becoming overweight opt out of the military, and the dumb fat slobs get pulled for service.

I wonder if that has to do with why they use so much toilet paper (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article2767051.ece).

I think this article could be better used to demonstrate Laerod's point about only the dumbasses serving in the military - who else would a) fail to recognize that they gave out their consumption rate in sheets rather than in rolls before releasing the numbers and b) give out toilet paper consumption rate numbers in sheets per person and day as opposed to rolls per person and day?I never said only the dumbasses serve in the military, just that the military selection process currently receives a larger portion of dumbasses doing 9 months service than would be representative of the German population. ;)

Remind me to add "Every thread that only remotely relates to Germany will be flooded with horribly mangled pseudo-German very quickly" to that list of NSG rules.

Then why does he serve in the military? All in good jest, as you should know.He likes it, interestingly enough. He gets to play with guns and fly in helicopters, while being paid for it.

That's very correct; please excuse my unwarranted overgeneralization.
