So apparently Google shows that today March 3rd 2008 is Alexander Graham Bell's birthday. He has invented the Telephone on June 2 1875. So Happy 161th Birthday Mr. Bell! I wonder how he would feel about phones today.

He has[sic] invented a Telephone on June 2 1875.
Fixed; 'the' would imply he was the first to invent one, which is untrue.

he'd make a show about it then steal all the taco's from strangers.
Then he'd steal everything else, EEVVVVVERRRYYYYTTTHHHIIINGG *head spins around*

He'd cringe in horror at the monster he helped create - when even even small children have cell phones attached to their ears and people walk down the streets, apparently chatting to thin air, with strange, Star Trekkish appendages attached to themselves.

No, but virtually everyone has a cell phone. And said cell phones are usually glued to an ear; or at the end of an arm, with fingers poking at it while someone texts someone else or takes pictures and sends them via the phone to yet another phone.
If Bell had known that the cell phone was going to be a result of his work, I think he would have decided to go into breeding carrier pigeons.

I suppose he would, he might even have left a little warning note to Germany and Italy and Russia in fact to most of Europe, well maybe the whole world.
I think there's a market for carrier pigeons, so when the post office breaks down we get our messages sent by a pigeon.
that would be cool, but might involve alot of bird to poo incidents on innocent bystanders, which is where you sell the see-through hat's thus even more profit.

Ironically, or coincidentally, Deaf people have little to no respect for Bell. Not because they're deaf and don't use telephones, but rather, because he was trying to invent a machine that would make them not Deaf anymore.

True, and he was very into the whole eugenics thing in regards to deafness. He wasnt a Nazi or anything, but he was very much in favour of forced sterilisation of deaf people. He also wanted all of them to be Oral, which is a rather stupid and cruel (if, unfortunately, very popular) method of communication for deaf people.
Basically Mr Bell just wasnt a very nice person, his wife and mother were deaf - basically he was advocating sterilising the people that raised him and loved him, as well as belittling them with various remarks (not directed at them specifically) calling into question the intelligence and worth of deaf people. Not to mention the suffering the Oral method would inflict on them (and continues to inflict on generations of deaf children to this day)

He hated the telephone even at the time. It was an accidental invention (as another poster said, he was trying to invent a way to make deaf people hear) and although he happily accepted the money that came his way from it, he refused ever to have a phone in his house. Asked why, he said "Why should I put a bell in my house and give any fool in the world leave to ring any time of the day or night?"

Bell didn't invent the telephone, Antonnio Meucci did. He patented it, became ill after his boiler exploded and didn't manage to send the $10 needed to keep the patent going.
After Bell presented his patent, Meucci sued Meucci had sent his ideas for the telephone to the lab at Western Union. Coincedentally Bell worked in the very same lab, where the sketches went mysteriously missing.

Degree? Damn. I just took ASL in highschool for fun. Enjoyed it very much, but that's as far as I'm taking it. Visited Gallaudet, though. That was nifty. Sidekicks EVERYWHERE.
lol yer would love to visit Gallaudet - maybe even do some study there!
Ive taught myself a few ASL signs by sneaking into a friends International Sign Class but nothing major, I just focused on my BSL, that was hard enough lol
EDIT: screw you google! :P

I had no idea that Bell was such an enormous tool.
Few people do - its not widely publicised. Bleh I don't like him AT ALL, as you can probably tell!
Eugenicist, plagiariser, torturer of children. Why would he even marry a deaf woman if he had so little respect for her that he would rather she was forcefully sterilised rather than be allowed to procreate (especially considering the fact that only 6% of deaf people at most have deaf parents so the whole 'sterilise the deaf to prevent more deaf' argument falls down straight away)?

I know all of like, two BSL letters or summat.
Apparently, though, the middle finger in Chinese sign means woman. The index pointed up means man. Or vice versa...either way.
lol the middle finger in BSL means holiday but only if you use both of them and spin them in a circle. Or it can mean fake, depending on where you put it.
I know a few signs of Chinese Sign Language as one of my teachers is from there but I dont know a lot lol - definitely not enough to have a conversation!
