Unless it's an assassination attempt, or a directed attack against some establishment, suicide bombings are typically meant to maximize casualties, so any area with high traffic or volumes of people are the typical targets.

You kill some important guy, then guess who shows up at his/her funeral? Thier supporters...it gets alot of them in one place at the same time and kaboom.

They should provide more security for cemeteries, to keep people from entering...or escaping.

It's a statement from the suicide bombers that they hate their authorities, they targeted a funeral to achieve maximum media attention, and because most people sympathetic to those police people would be there so more authority people are damaged, rather than a busy town square where some people might be sympathetic to their message.
It's likely you'l hear of more suicide bombings in the Middle East as the warmer weather starts to kick in.
A sad situation though, hopefully they'l learn to talk rather than kill to get over their issues.

Also because funerals are "solemn occasions." The idea that anyone would disrupt a religious observance with violence and politics is antipathetic and offends on the same level as killing children, so the media eats it up. Why do you think Fred Phelps targets funerals - because the media eats it up.
