who would've thunk that removing the principal feline from his comic would actually improve it.

It's like watching a soap in mute, makes all the issues the people have seem so stupid and insignificant, and pretty funny

It's a shame the Garfield Randomizer was taken down. It assembled hilarious Garfield comics by taking apart Gerfield comics panel by panel and reassembling them randomly.

Please, you don't even need to remove Garfield or his text to give the strip larger implications. There's (http://garfield.com/comics/comics_archives_strip.html?1989-ga891023) always (http://garfield.com/comics/comics_archives_strip.html?1989-ga891024)the (http://garfield.com/comics/comics_archives_strip.html?1989-ga891025) Halloween (http://garfield.com/comics/comics_archives_strip.html?1989-ga891026) week (http://garfield.com/comics/comics_archives_strip.html?1989-ga891027) from (http://garfield.com/comics/comics_archives_strip.html?1989-ga891028) 1989, which has multiple interpretations. One of which is that Garfield is starving to death in an abandoned house and is creating all of the future strips in his mind in an effort to cope with his impending death.

It's more like the discovery that he had a penis. Given what the first panel said, and then the look of suprise on the last one. :p

Now, read this strip and just let your mind go to the naughty place.

Odd. I used to read it with more zeal back then ... one would think i'd have seen that run.

To be fair, he just wanted to be scary on Halloween and wanted to capitalize on people's biggest fear that they would die alone, and was apparently shocked that people ever even had come up that theory.

Then he said it wasn't true and that the horror future was the fake, not Jon and Odie.

That's one of the main reasons why you don't see Lyman anymore ... or his moustache ... but you do strangely enough still have Lyman's small dog in the strip. *ponders*
It curried a lot of controversy, apparently.

except it's funnier without Garfield because if he's mute, you know there's still someone/something else there he's talking to.

case in point...

and considering the synopsis at the top of the page...
Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is an even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolor disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life? Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle. Let’s laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against lonliness in a quiet American suburb.

The humor in the one I posted comes from the fact that Jon just died from a heart attack and Garfield, being a cat, doesn't care. It required a fair amount of editing, though. Had to replace the last panel Garfield, remove all his thought balloons, and remove Jon's last panel speech balloon.

That renders all future Garfield strips infinitely more dark. Wow.
