February 29th should be a holiday?

Seems there is a campaign in the UK to make February 29th a holiday. First time I have thought about it but why should it be a working day - my employer does not pay me any more in leap years? Or would that simply be the thin end of the wedge and bring about the downfall of our economy?

A holiday as well as the day when every panicky female gets to propose to her BF?
I'm not sure I like the idea...

as an employee and an employer, i lean towards saying employees get tonnes of holiday anyway and this is basically
a) just another weekday
b) catching up on all the 1/4 days in the last four years they didn't work ;)
but i may be swayed by one particular girl who, between sick leave and holiday and bank holidays etc, pretty much didn't come in to work for about 3 months straight last year.

In the UK we have fewer holidays than any other country in Europe - and we aren't particularly productive despite doing all the extra work. Maybe the two are connected.

Aw, c'mon, not you, too.
My BF told me about this custom, and he's English. Apparently, on a 29th of Feb it's ok for girls to propose, whereas the rest of the year that would be the guy's job.
I can't help feeling he's actually waiting for me to do it, but he'll be disappointed there. I asked him out on the first date, so it's his turn now to take initiative ;)

Well then it's never going to get done, people can be very stubborn when it comes to these things.

Yup. I heard about it on TodayFM. They phoned up some guy and his GF proposed on air(he said yes). Now they're about to do one live.

Heard about that one. I think that's a very, VERY bad idea. Imagine the kind of pressure you put the other under. Not very nice. :(

I know, but still... would you appreciate being asked in front of thousands of strangers, as well a good few of your friends and relatives most likely?
I'd turn around and run, personally.

Oy! You mocking my size? :p
Nah, he found a dress on ebay, I don't think it'll be up there any more anyway. But I saved the pics, so I can ask a friend of mine to tailor one for me ;)

There's no reason to make it a holiday, although it would be nice. They would have to make up some importantthing that happens on this day that comes every four years. But as I said, I wouldn't mind it being a holiday.

See, I'm wondering now... Should I? ;)
Hmm, maybe it's a good thing it's NOT a holiday. If my GF and I were both off this day, I might be in danger! :D

I've warned my girlfriend several times that the only result she would get from asking me would be a Fionn shaped hole in the wall as I leg it in the opposite direction. Not because I don't want to but because I really want to be the one to ask

Well my staff are not happy with all of you - I was going to let them go home early depending on how the voting in the poll went.

Would have gotten them a round of tacos?

Yes, that's why it's called St-Superman's day.

Sadly for them, Leicester is remarkable not just for having more traffic lights per square mile than any other city in the UK, but also for its complete lack of taco stands.

It should absolutely be a public holiday. If someone tagged an extra hour onto the end of the day you wouldn't work it without complaint, so why an extra day?

why not have all the other days off and we come to work every 29th?
also I was swept off my feet today and had no idea about the tradition...oh dear:p

You better do it before she does, then ;)
Isn't it obvious ? 29th of februari should be: International TACO day !
As to the work vs pay comments: be self-employed, i charge my clients by the hour :)

Maybe because anyone who was alive when it was tagged on is long dead. Having an extra day every four years is as much the norm as having a 24 hour day.

All I have to do is avoid her until 12:01 tonight and I have 4 years of peace of mind :p
