Bush for Wiretapping

Bush urges wiretapping

He also mouthed off against the lawsuits, in his speech.
In a wide-ranging speech Mr Bush also:

called on Turkey to "move quickly" and "get out" of Iraq, following its military incursion - now in its sixth day - over the border to flush out Kurdish rebel bases
said his political opponents kept making the "same old call for withdrawal" of US troops from Iraq, refusing to acknowledge any security gains over the last year
said the forthcoming Beijing Olympics would not stop him expressing "deep concerns" about issues such as religious freedom with the Chinese leadership
insisted the US was not heading for a recession and rejected, for now, calls for any extra economic stimulus efforts.

So folks now you know what President Bush wishes to do before he leaves, is this really any surprise to you?
Still trying to scare the public into giving what he wants.
Will he ever learn.

oh really?
I had no idea that the world was full of terrorists.
You say we don't have anything to hide? well fair enough, but that doesn't really stand up to scrutiny, that's like saying, the government is allowed to strip search all people who enter the country because if they're innocent they have nothing to hide.
The truth is, this is just Bush banging his drum about terrorism, i'm surprised he hasn't noticed what he's done already.

Exactly. Whats next? Telescreens "They have nothing to hide, it's only fair that we can watch them." The worst part is, I can actually imagine that coming out of Bush's mouth. Big Brother is watching.

well it goes in stages,
this is the make random comments stage. I don't know what the others are though but i'm sure one of them is the gun smiley stage, another the hate mods stage.
It's quite interesting really all different walks of post.:)

Well, if you look at his comment in the Who Should Not Be President thread he used the gun smily, so it looks like he quickly moved to stage two.

Yea, because we shouldn't have a right to privacy. Listen, if you don't mind O Glorious Leader listening in on your phone calls and watching you when you shower, thats your business.

Seriously, how much rights do we have to sacrifice so you neocons can feel safe?

Because it doesn't matter if people are oppressed to dirt by capitalism, as long as they have Christianity to console them it's all alright.

Oppressed by Capitalism? Hardly. And you do realize that not all Americans are Christians  Or that George Bush is the village idiot? (Or I suppose the National idiot) Of course, if you believe that Capitalism is actually oppressive, then maybe you should check some Nations that aren't Capitalistic (If that's the right word) Countries. *COUGH*North Korea*COUGHCOUGH* Sorry about that, small cold. Welllll....That point about capitalism isn't strictly true, it can be just as oppressive as any other forms of government. Depending on it's situation with it's economy, civil rights etc. Capitalism is the hungry beast that is never satisfied.

True, but I can't seem to think of even one Capitalist country that has done worse than a Communist Country. Capitalism might not seem to good, but once you compare it to the alternative, it's scary how good capitalism seems. If you can name one Communist country that has done better than a capitalist one (Excepting 3rd world countries), I will admit I was wrong.

nondomestic so?
why would you be for a government action that could try you for terrorist acts, one that costs lots of money for people to use listening devices. It just goes against civil rights in a sly way.
A slow move toward a police state is wiretapping. No i'm not for it in the least.
why would you want the government to continue it's paranoia spree? to justify passing this law you know what's going to happen? The government will have to find these terrorists, which means potentially innocent people nicked for talking to one another.

I have to disagree, hivemind is a an apt description. You're beholden to demagoguery and hysteria, all Bush did after 9/11 was your fault because of your out of control emotions, he banked your emotions as political capital and got a good return. Public opinion in America at the time was massively for the war, until America can free itself from being manipulated by politicians then politicians being what they are will take advantage of your hysteria and use it.

So please, I don't want to hear that America is now better and you have changed your minds, because if another event happened tomorrow it would happen all over again.

Yes, because we never learn from our mistakes, we're Americans, stupid and fat freaks who sit on our butts all day and allow politicians to shape us like silly putty. I don't know why you continue to insult America like the rest of the world decided to dump their scum here, but it's really starting to get annoying. I don't speak whatever dialect of english you're using here. The logic you're using isn't applicable to other situations, - unless you're arguing that the only justification for having any laws at all is to catch innocent people - therefore it is not valid.

Sadly, the court proccess is terribly slow and the enemy changes communications channels more frequently than he changes his underwear (probably much, MUCH more frequently), so by the time the order to tap a specific line gets through the system it isn't much good anymore.

Not true.

not true at all.

under previous law, they can get a warrant 72 hours after tapping a phone.

the only concievable reason to do it without a warrent is to conceal the truth about who you're wiretapping.
