It will live on as long as people only think in terms as Democrats AND Republicans.

I got into an interesting conversation the other day. someone accused me of being a Republican. I asked why and he said and I quote "It seems you disagree with the Democrats." my reply: "so anyone not a 'Democrat' is automatically a Republican?" and he said "yes."

as long a people only think in two parties. then the GOP will remain.

I felt the need to post in it because I really don't want any more hate on someone else threads in NSG, and frankly I don't see how this can be anything else. Frankly, we're where we are, let's live with it. I really don't see how insulting somebody without substance and without seeing their argument in a rational sense can bring about anything good, and unfortunately rational debate is too much to hope for at this point, because people's opinions are so set in stone and so emotional now that they frankly can't think anymore, and it's partially because of shenaningans like this.

Really, it doesn't matter who's right now, because people have too frimly made up their minds to possibly learn anything.

The local plant had a job opening posted. Boring Mill Operator Wanted, it said. So I went in and asked what the job was about. They said the job was just boring. All day long: boring, boring, boring. They asked if I had any experience. I said, "Sure, I've been boring for years. My mom said she even found me boring when I was a little kid!"

No, it didn't. It had a distaste for the extension of slavery into the territories, because it wanted to keep blacks out of them. Both parties were full of racist douchebags.

When the Republican party was first founded, it actually was based on...good ideas and equality. After all, Republicans are the reason for the 14th ammendment.

Then, in the 60s and 70s, it forgot what it was and decided it only had bad ideas and only cared about equality for rich white guys.

Most of the world was racist back then. Still, I would argue that many Republicans found slavery morally reprehensible. Why do you think the KKK targeted them?

Because they encoruaged blacks to vote, run for office, and wrote and forced the South to adopt the 13th, 14th, and 15th Ammendments.

By making you pay tax?

This was no ordinary tax. It was a tax on tea, which any self-respecting Briton should recognize as a barbarity of the highest degree.

Actually it was more complicated than that. For years Britain had kept a hands-off policy with the colonies, and then it started trying to regulate what they did, which was annoying if not particularly illegal. Then there were the infringements on the rights that the colonists were guaranteed as British citizens, and then there was the actual fighting itself. Being attacked by British troops is enough to sour anyone's mouth, even if you are shoot back.

In conclusion: U-S-A! U-S-A!

Well, I suppose these authorities do have to be taken down a peg now and then, like when the English gently discouraged certain unwanted behaviours by executing the King in 1649. Nonetheless, I think a stronger British Empire, with America included could have been an asset to the world.

And don't forget about the Democrats too. With all seriousness, both parties are focused towards one thing despite doing it in different ways:More power to the Government. Proof? Is a chart enough?

True, but at least the Democrats used to stand for some good things (free trade, de-centralization, a peaceful foreign policy, and sound money). Now, both parties suck equally.

Could be but if Mad King George had looked over the Olive Branch Petition in 1775, we would not have taken the step of declaring independence. Most members of the First Continent Congress did not support Independence but wanted to remain with the British Empire.

Some election systems tend towards multiple parties, while others (including ours) tend towards only two. If there was a runoff (such as France's), votes for third parties like the green party would make sense (if you support them, that is). The way thigns go, however, you'd be voting for someone with no chance, and there's no "revote for your second choice".
