JERUSALEM (CNN) -- A majority of Israelis think their government should hold talks with Hamas for a cease-fire in Gaza and the release of a captured soldier, according to a poll in a leading Israeli newspaper Wednesday.
Very very interesting. If the government is smart, they'll listen to the people. Will they though? I doubt it because people in the Israeli Government right now are mostly old guard.
Your thoughts?

And I'm quite sure that a majority of Palestinians would back talks with Israel. I neither trust the government of Israel or the 'government' of Palestine, however.

Certainly a sign of hope for once, that a peaceful solution is possible.

Why? A peaceful solution will not necessarily follow diplomatic efforts and talks.
Did I say it was a certainty? Just a move in the right direction.

It's far more likely with talks than without, is it not?
How many Israelis also supports a renewed invasion of Gaza?

Hopefully growing up there nowadays is imparting the people with hope for peace instead of resentment.
Wow, a sign of the end times. That dissolves a little bit of my cynicism about that region. Not much though, I have they'll fuck it up.

I hope peace can be achieved in that region. 2,000+ years of war and religious upheaval are enough I think.:)

Possibly - but then there were a few false starts in Northern Ireland before things really began to improve. Presumably conflict fatigue sets in and people become willing to compromise in order to live in peace.
