Do you have a nickname?

What nickname would you give a fellow NSer?

Does your nickname annoy you, or do you like it?

So I don't get in trouble for not contributing in the original post...
I've had nicknames my whole life. A few of them I'd rather not mention, but they involve the word "snot". I've had some strange ones, like Myer Girl and Motzerella (I like cheese?), and I've also had the really ovbious adding an "ie" and subsequently a "poo" on the end of your name.

I've had a lot of nicknames. Reeka... being the most obvious. (If you can't figure it out, it's possible you haven't said it out loud.) Friends from home call me Kiz or Kizzle a lot still. Some of my friends (mostly guys) here at school call me Oompah Loompah. I wish I was kidding.

I guess I don't mind the nicknames (at least the ones I know of), mostly because it's meant affectionately, not hatefully.

I get Spike, Bronto, and Kid the most, though only from select people.

Some of my friends (mostly guys) here at school call me Oompah Loompah.. People called me that when I was in HS..and it wasn't meant to be affectionate. :(

Other than Shorty,I really don't have a nickname people call me.

I somehow get "Les" from "Tom". I guess it's because I play a Les Paul, but still.
Der Teutoniker

Stormin' Norman... my middle name is Norman, so it's pretty easy to figure out....

A nickname for an NSer? I would make LG singular... it describes him very aptly.
Angry Swedish Monkeys

Certain people used to call me Michael-roni and cheese. I'm not actually sure why, as I've never been particularly fond of the food item that such a nickname plays off of.

I got called scoot in high school which pissed me off (my name is Scott, and this forgein exchange student when he said my name it sounded like "scoot", so all my friends thought they were being clever).

In college a few of my guy friends have called me darth vader because I wear a long black trench coat in the winter, and usully have on a black t shirt, so somehow they got Darth Vader from that. Or maybe its because sometimes Im in a bad mood and unpleasent to be around.

It quickly spread to the women folk we hung out with. I kept being worried Id get sued by Lucas;)

Personally, I think "Scoot" is adorable. :p

As for me, I had the nickname "Amara", or 'mara, all through high school, due to a character I rp'ed in grades eight and nine. There are still a few - well, one in particular - people who know me as such.

In the last few years, it's pretty much been Steffy (which only my best friend and my mom can call me), and Stefania. My name being, of course, Stephanie, and Stefania being the Italian version.

Almost everyone calls me "Steph", so it's not even a nickname anymore. Funny thing is, until I met my boyfriend, I *loathed* Steph. It was Stephanie or die. Then he started calling me Steph, and, well, I didn't mind so much... and now everyone does.

I got the nickname "Mr Huge" while I was in the army. I got it from knowing so many people that where I went I knew someone. Had a buddy say damn you are "Huge!". Therefore the name Mr Huge stuck. A lot of my friends still call me that after all these years.

Mostly just "guero." Of course, context and voice inflection make all the difference in calling that a nickname, rather than an insult, but with friends as a kid it was harmless.

My real-life nicknames are Nene and Tone. The first was totally mangled by small child-mouths, the latter is somewhat of a joke.

Online there have been several purposeful trashings of my screenname(s), but not this one, at least as far as I know. :D
The Coral Islands
26-02-2008, 06:00
Now and then people actually call me Kie, but it tends to be more of an online nickname for me than an offline one.
My first name is two syllables long, but many people use a common one-syllable shortform, even after I tell them that I prefer the name my parents gave me.
My sister commonly calls me 'brother' rather than using my name, but I call her 'sister' so it all works out.
My Mom has been known to call me Link, after the videogame character. Ridiculously, after my sister began dating a guy with my name, Mom decided that I was the one who needed a new moniker.
A friend of mine sometimes calls me Gordon, after the character on Stargate Atlantis.
Big Jim P
26-02-2008, 06:22
"Frankie" in reference to Frankenstien-like big black boots that I wear.
"Big Jim" given to me by a girl I knew several years ago. A reference to the song by ween. Also the inspiration for my nation name.
"Red Dog" for the beer.
"devil boy" Obvious.
"Greatness" due to my lack of modesty. (really no clue as to why anyone would consider me to be anything less than perfectly modest.)

I have others.......

Walrus. There are people who don't know my real name and just call me that.

Here's the story-

Back in my first attempt at college I hung out with this chick a lot, and since I was a bit of a slacker and needed an accomplice, I would drag her along on a lot of my hijinks, which were tame but whatever. It usually involved doing all the things I could do for free because I either worked someplace or knew someone else who did.

She had a fiance that I hadn't met but knew about. She wanted him to do the things I did with her (in addition to give her 'the good stuff', which I didn't do). But, he worked for a living (he was a ranch hand...yeah, great...). So she tried to make him jealous by telling this ranch hand that there was this guy she hung out with at college that did all these cool things with her. She told me about this and all I could think about was my face getting pounded by an angry ranch hand while I tried to explain, "All we did was play pinball!!!" and how that wouldn't come across that well.

But, much to my relief, he didn't get jealous and she couldn't understand why. I asked her how she described me. Now, I have to explain, she has a tendency to be unintentionally frank. I had a rather large mustache at the time, and not thinking that maybe it wouldn't be the most flattering description said "He looks kind of like a walrus."

"Well, there's your problem. Any guy finds out his girlfriend is hanging out with someone she thinks looks like a walrus, he's just going to be happy she made a friend." She was embarrassed once she realized that the name wasn't the most flattering, and to tease her I kept bringing it up. When I had to enter a name in something I would put 'Walrus' to tease her (bowling games, bar trivia). It was at bar trivia where I met for the first time the staff of the record store during my second term of employment that a group of them learned who I was through a bar trivia game. Since there were already two other people with my real name there (who also went by nicknames) they all spontaneously decided to call me Walrus. After a while people stopped bothering to learn my real name and I became just Walrus. It's not as common now, but now and then I run into someone who still only knows me by that name.

Why didn't I use some variation of that for a nation name? Shut up, that's why.

Call me Mr. Memory but I think you've previously explained that you tried it as a nation name but it was already taken?

I've never had a nickname - my parents used to call us children 'yeahbutnobutahbut' since one of these variations was invariably the preface to any answer we gave.

Mine was "All-night", 'cause a rumor went around that once I spent "All-Night" with one of the popular girls in school. Which was true, but it wasn't the kind of all-night thing i wanted to do. (we both worked at the same place and one night had to work until 1am)

That and "dinge" was another. Easier to explain, I acted like a dingbat- and was very into the grunge scene back then (early '90's) so combine DINGBAT and GRUNGE= Dinge.

No, I have a string of variations for such situations. It really just didn't occur to me. I had settled on it being my national animal and had not thought about it being my name. Though, at the time I didn't even know this place had a forum and I certainly didn't have a notion that I'd become addicted to like like it was word crack, so being known by the name I chose didn't really cross my mind. I just wanted to see what the game was all about. I didn't go to the forums for months (or weeks, it was a while ago) and when I did I was informed that if I did think of a name, I couldn't change it. I made some puppets that had names (none of them a variation on Walrus) but they never took and I just stayed nameless...

I've never had a nickname - my parents used to call us children 'yeahbutnobutahbut' since one of these variations was invariably the preface to any answer we gave.

In reality my nickname is 'Jonty' which is quite strange as J is not present in any part of my real name. It all came up on the first night of moving into halls. We were all drinking, partying and then we gave each other nicknames. Mine was the only one that stuck and I am now introduced to everyone as Jonty.

I grew up thinking my name was Curly - when I was born, my brother who was just 2 and hadn't mastered the art of saying "g" went around telling everybody that his mum had had a curl... It stuck and years later when he got teenage and diffident he suddenly refused to call me Curly and I found out I had another name :p

Nicknames: Bea, Betty, Aliria, Alir, Ael, Aelosia, Gallito é Pelea, Gallita, Galla, Saltona, Tragagente, "That obnoxious bitch over there", (I don't know if the last one qualifies ;))

Nicknames for fellow NSers: They all already have one, don't they?

Does my nickname annoys me: Bea or Betty does. I like to be called by my first name as it is. When someone asks "Can I call you Betty, right?", I always answer, "No, the name is Beatriz thankyouverymuch". I got rejected of a job interview because of this.

It's hard to translate a nickname, but it would be something like "that chill dude from our year/class" or something with the same meaning because I'm quite calm and I think I could be best described as a slacker or something similar, I think I'm also quite funny in real life.
If I come to class I mainly just read or sleep or observe other people or talk. If you see me outside class I'm not that active either. Actually I'm only active when going out or when I'm swimming or when I have one of my hyperactive moods. I also spent most of my ski-holiday sitting on a mountain, drinking with friends or reading on our balcony and stuff like that. Sometimes I wish that I did a little bit more but sometimes I'm quite happy, and considering the small amount of work I do my grades are reasonable.
I don't know if it really qualifies as a nickname because it's more of a description, but many people know me like that or something similar. Maybe I should talk to more people and tell them my real name.
I guess the 'nickname' is appropriate so I'm ok with it.

Why? I like my name, but I also like my nicknames. They're associated with the love that I get from my friends and family. my most recently acquired knickname is Roman as a concatenation of my first three names, given to me by my Polish friends. Roman is apparently a rather outmoded Polish name, but i like it.

Rossco is what people called me at my last place of work. i liked that one.

my ex-flatmates had numerous names for me incuding, Rosstopher, Rosamund, Princess and some others i can't remember. none of which i particularly liked but they were all meant in good fun so i didn't mind.

at primary school i had several, including Twiglet (for my freckles), Mont Orange (for the unfortunate shape my hair took for a while), The Mad Hacker (for my tackling style in football, the one you play with your feet that is), Cauliflower (as an extension of my surname) and some others i don't remember. i don't think i had any at secondary school, everyone just got called by their surname. oh! i got called Cholera for a while because it sounds a bit like my surname. that's it i think.

knicknames for others at my secondary school included:

Bugy (his surname was Brugrabber or something, Austrian)
Casper (he was very pale)
Master Bates (his surname was Bates and he was pretty repulsive)
Truck (a stocky kid whose surname was Tuck)
Dogdirt, or just Dog (not sure how exactly it came about but the guy was a twat)
Mr Soft (walked like Mr Soft in those old chewy mints adverts)
Samwell (corruption of Samuel, also the name of the guy's dad)
Mini-Roda (his dad was head of the school RAF cadet thingy and his nickname was Roda, short for Rotheram)
Barney (i think cuz he talked like that purple dinosaur but having never heard the dino speak i don't know)
DJ Doougy D (once he said he would call himself this if he became a DJ, regretted opening his mouth ever since)
Winston (his surname was Winson)
The Beast, Willy, Free Willy, Pie Eater (a fat kid with odd hair and the unfortunate name of Pieter Williams)

on the internet forums i frequent i get called IR, RI, RIR, Rom, Romi or Ro.

In reality my nickname is 'Jonty' which is quite strange as J is not present in any part of my real name. It all came up on the first night of moving into halls. We were all drinking, partying and then we gave each other nicknames. Mine was the only one that stuck and I am now introduced to everyone as Jonty.

After Jonty Rhodes?

A friend of mine at school was known as Chooka.

His last name was Henderson & chook is Australian slang for chicken.

When I was in high school and college, my friends (and my now ex-husand) called me "Dink" or "Dinky." I hated them for that, especially since no one ever explained why.

Now I'm mostly called "Mom."

A couple of my friends occasionally call me Cuntstorm. I feel like I should be a little insulted but its just so damn funny when they use it in public. I have even used a few times just to get a reaction.

Ha I wish. I don't think anyone knows why. It's just one of those things...

I get called "Shocker". Something to do with my refereeing decisions - I ref a mate's football league once or twice a week. Bless their cotton socks.

When I was in middle school some people called my Robojen. Now if people shorten my name they usually just call me Jen. Sometimes my dad calls me Jen-Jen. And on here and GM people call me Chandy sometimes. :)

But some people I don't even know have started calling me the devil lately and I don't know why. :(

Crash, it even says that on my locker at work. I think it was after I was hit by a car for the second time that someone hung that on me. Getting nailed a third, forth and fifth time probably sealed the deal.

I have a classmate.friend that we call with a slang term for vagina/introitus. It's not related to her sex organ, but we macerated her nickname and surname to come out with the term.

We call my roommate with another name that is completely unrelated to his real name. And my mother knows him by that name...

I call my fiance by the name of "Gordu", which in Spanish means fatty ('u' for Asturian). I know, it sounds mean, but in Spanish is an endearing term. He calls me "Nena", or little girl, because I'm small in stature.

The only nick name I have is Trotsky, and it's exclusive to this forum. You can prolly guess why.

But we usually just call you Trots...
