This looks like the dawning of a new era in technology. Soon you will able to move a computer mouse with thought, and you will be able to draw and write music by thinking about it.

Two hundred ninety-nine dollars?! Holy freaking CRAP! That is cheap!

I wonder...could it work at all on current video game consoles?

Probably, but it would work on exactly zero of the current games, as they would have to be made with this input device in mind, which they're not. I also very much doubt that this product would be much of an improvement over a controller. I just don't think the technology is anywhere near ready.

Mmm. And no doubt we'll be playing it on our holographic quantum computers. And then fly off to work in our hover cars.

Go buy. then you win. And believe it or not, the things i mentioned do exist. they just aren't practical or generally commercially available.

Quantum computers exist?

'D-Wave systems inc. claims to be the world’s first — and only — provider of quantum computing systems designed to run commercial applications. On 13 February, 2007 they ran an initial demonstration of their Orion quantum computing system[15] However, since D-Wave Systems has not released the full details of Orion to the scientific community, many experts in the field have expressed skepticism'

So sort of. They are definitely theoretically possible.

Quantum computers exist?

Well sort of. There was a demonstration by some canadian company (D-wave systems says google) of a very basic one, but people think it might have been faked. They are definitely theoretically possible.

They are definitely theoretically possible.Last time I checked, they weren't. Every article about them says they will be invented in about 20 years. "About 20 years" is science code for "we don't know if this will ever exist." Maybe you know something about it I don't though.

I looked up the d-wave thing you where talking about, and I very deeply doubt that is a real quantum computer.

It's not very flexible at the moment, and you have to concentrate too hard. It'll be a while before this technology is useful for games.

It's not very flexible at the moment, and you have to concentrate too hard. It'll be a while before this technology is useful for games.

Still, if they have prototypes now, we might have the actual thing in a decade or two.

My prediction:

The Epoc Headset comes out in five years. It works as an alternate controller, allowing players to input commands directly with their minds. However, they still have to use the standard controller formats (for example, you have to think "Right trigger" to fire a weapon). It is difficult to use, but those who learn can react faster in games. The Epoc Headset becomes the mark of an elite gamer - they are a common sight at tournaments.

While the Epoc Headset sells, it doesn't make a ton of money. Subsequently, Emotiv is approached by the five largest gaming companies: Sony Computer Entertainment, Microsoft Game Studios, Nintendo, Electronic Arts, and Activision Blizzard. All five companies want to make a dedicated console version (EA and Blizzard want to get in on the console market, and figure that the Epoc might be the way to do it). Later, the console makers pull out, not wanting to gamble on a technology that has had limited success, putting their faith in standard consoles like the PS5. Blizzard, which seems to be made of money, outbids EA, especially since Blizzard only wanted the console rights, while EA wanted to take over Emotiv.

The Activision Blizzard Mindbox is released in 2016. The first games released are ports of World of Warcraft and other PC Blizzard games. However, the big game is Starcraft: Ghost, which is the Mindbox's leading exclusive. Starcraft: Ghost gets awesome reviews, with its highly intuitive control system. Eventually, the game is ported to the PC, but at the caveat of requiring an Epoc 2 headset. A handful of people who simply cannot use the Epoc technology are disappointed, but Blizzard explains that Ghost was designed specifically with Mindbox technology in mind.

The Mindbox sells very well, and Blizzard stands as the fourth console maker. However, the mind-controller technology does not become universal for another generation.

Quantum computers exist?Yes, for some definition of "computer"; they are so primitive as to be completely useless for anything other than further research which might lead to the possibility of constructing one that is of practical use.
