The Greatest Western theme-song?
He rode a blazing saddle
He wore a shining star
His job to offer battle to bad men near and far
He conquered fear and he conquered hate
He turned dark night into day
He made his blazing saddle a torch to light the way
When outlaws ruled the west
And fear filled the land
A cry went out for a man with guts to take the west in hand
They needed a man who was brave and true with justice for all as his aim
Then out of the sun rode a man with a gun
And Bart was his name
Yes Bart was his name
He rode a blazing saddle
He wore a shining star
His job to offer battle to bad men near and far
He conquered fear and he conquered hate
He turned dark night into day
He made his blazing saddle a torch to light the way

Considering all forms of Western-drama, which production had the best theme-song?
Examples:
Movie: The Magnificent Seven.
T.V. serial: Bonanza.
Musical: Paint Your Wagon.
My vote goes to the theme-song from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
The Magnificent Seven, haven't seen the movie, but I like the TV series.

Yeah, for the movies 's a classic. "The Ballad of High Noon" and "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral" are a couple more old classics.
For TV Bonanza was good. "Have gun will travel" is up there. But "Rawhide" is my fave.
(Frankie Laine? Who said anything about Frankie Laine? Yep, we lost a good'un last year...)
:D
Where's my rolled up newspaper when I need it...
The Magnificent Seven, haven't seen the movie, but I like the TV series.
Oh my. I didn't know they'd up and done that. For shame.

Rawhide

26 Men

That would not be a theme song. This is the theme song:

Gold

Gold!
Gold!!
Gotta dream boy
Gotta song
Paint your wagon
And come along
Where am I goin'?
I don't know
Where am I headin'?
I ain't certain
All I know
Is I am on my way
When will I be there?
I don't know
When will I get there?
I ain't certain
All that I know
Is I am on my way
Gotta dream boy
Gotta song
Paint your wagon
[And come along - Sung In German]
[Verse sung in German]
[Verse sung in Chinese]
[Verse sung in American Indian]
Gotta dream boy
Gotta song
Paint your wagon
And come along
Where am I goin'?
I don't know
When will I be there?
I ain't certain
What will I get?
I ain't equipped to say
But who gives a damn?
Who gives a damn?
Who gives a damn?
We're on our way
Where am I goin'?
I don't know
Where am I headin'?
I ain't certain
All that I know
Is I am on my way
When will I be there?
I don't know
When will I get there?
I ain't certain
All that I know
Is I am on my way
-Instrumental-
When am I goin'?
I don't know
Where am I headin'?
I ain't certain
All that I know
Is I am on my way
When will I be there?
I don't know
When will I get there?
I ain't certain
All that I know
Is I am on my way
Gotta dream boy
Gotta song
Paint your wagon
And come along
Where are we goin'?
I don't know
When will we be there?
I ain't certain
What will we get?

But who gives a damn?
Who gives a damn?
We're on our way!

Rawhide!
Rollin rollin rollin

easily Rawhide.
A group called "The Chaps" did a sweet parody of it knonw as "The Scottish Rawhide Song"
(Imagine this all sung in a bad Scots accent...)
Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Rawhide!
Eh, see you cow!
Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Though they're disapprovin'
Keep them beasties movin', rawhide!
Through rain and wind and heather
Hell-bent for leather
Wishin' my wee lassie's by my side
All the stuff I'm missin'
The haggis, beer and fishin'
Are waiting at the end of my ride
Ride 'em in, move 'em out
Move 'em out, ride 'em in
Make your mind up, (Rawhide!)
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in
Ride 'em in, cut 'em out
It's enough to give you a rawhide
Yippi-ai-o
Yippi-ai-ey
You!, I seen these easy ghostriders, you know
Back there in the sky
I says: "Come down here and do the roppel"
That's what I call a real tune, you know
Yeah, keep your country and western, eh!
See you, Jimmy
See you, Jimmy
Yippi-ai-o (O, o, o!)
Yippi-ai-ey (Hoombajajaja, hoombajajaja)
This singin's dead easy, there ain't nothing to it,
It's a piece of cake.
Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Oh, eh, what about the eh,
Key Change!
Oh, eh, Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Though my bladder's swollen,
Keep them bullocks movin', rawhide
Don't try to understand 'em
Just stick their nut and brand 'em
And dream of pints of heavy in East Kilbride
My tart's calculatin'
My wages'll be waitin'
Waitin' at the end of my ride
Ride 'em in, move 'em out
Move 'em out, ride 'em in
Roll this (Rawhide!)
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in
Hey, Commanche!
So you wrote this rubbish, eh?
Well, see you!, does your mother sew?
I'm getting sort of punchy on my left foot
(Hoombajajaja, hoombajajaja)
Hey, who you're hummin' eh?
(Hoombajajaja, hoombajajaja)
See you, Jimmy
See you, Jimmy
Okay, lads, get stuck in there
(Rawhide!)
Rawhide, Jimmy!

For A Few Dollars More has quite an atmospheric one, but then so does A Fistful of Dollars and The Good, The Bad and the Ugly.

Morricone's Fist Full Of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad & The Ugly are all great, but if pushed I'd go for The Magnificent Seven.

Sergio Leone? No?
Anyway, anything by Ennio Morricone is awesome, but if we're just looking at themes; then yeah, Magnificent Seven.
for a lyric, blazing saddles of course
for a musical composition, good, bad, ugly, hands down
for a movie itself, halliluyah trail was a trip
(does/did broken back mountain have a theme song, i don't recall, i don't think i've ever heard it if it did)
fire sign theater's "how the west was lost" is pretty good too. though not exactly a movie theme song as far as i know.
