I was invited to a party where I don't know anybody

On facebook somebody I've never met invited me to a birthday party for someone I've never heard of. They go to my college though. About 500 people where invited but only 30 have confirmed they are showing up. What should I do? This party happens to be an hour away. I could waste $30 of gas just to stand there awkwardly, not knowing anybody. It's also possible I could enjoy it, but considering how horrible my social skills are that's less likely.

make an excuse and say you were too ill to go?
or some other plausable excuse.
Or you could tell them the truth and say it wasn't well organised, so you didn't go, or you got drunk elsewhere and forgot?
up to you really, either way have a blast.:)

Why the hell are you considering it? Do you want to get a roofie colada than wake up after being anally raped?

A party in the next apartment over where you don't know anyone could be interesting. An hour away isn't worth considering.

And, plus. It's a Facebook invite. Don't take it as someone went, "Oh man! I really hope THIS guy will be at my party!", because usually people just select all their friends list and hit send.

Well there actually is an Obama rally in the same city the party is in, and I was considering going there anyway. So if I don't like the party my time isn't totally wasted.

Skip it. Then set your profile to "friends only."

Are you kidding me?

How do any of you ever meet girls? Of course you should go.

Rule about parties:

1)Only attend a party if you can make it there in 30 minutes on foot.

2) There will be at least one person you know there.

3) Someone else will give you a lift there making rule 1 moot.

4) Always attend or make the effort to attend a party of a close friend/family member.

This is good advice.
i think it's important that you know at least one person there, well.

Get fucked up, and have someone drive you there. Social problems and gas problems solved.

Wait a second - how are you going to spend $30 on an hour's worth of gas? Do you happen to drive a garbage truck or something? :p
