So when is it...
When is it trying to be friends with an ex and when is it beating a dead horse?
This is what happens when I'm up at almost 2AM because of a school assignment and I get inundated with messages from my ex. (Okay, so that's not true. I'm up because I'm waiting for Questionable Content (http://www.questionablecontent.net) to update. Who cares.) Before anyone calls me an insensitive bitch, he dumped me a year and change ago and I had to break off all communication after that in an attempt to keep what was left of my sanity. I'm so sure he only has the best intentions, but how many messages do I have to quietly ignore before a guy will take a hint? You know?
Hopefully first, last, and only post induced by sleep deprivation and the urge to slap someone upside the head.

Just tell him and get it over with. I never notice hints.

Yeah, that's just being outright rude. I prefer the subtly never responding to any of your messages.
Personally, if someone never responded to me? I'd figure they weren't worth the effort and leave them well enough alone.

he wants a piece of your ass again that is all
I suggest you either make him your bitch or just ignore him until he gets the message (which is more cruel than saying something but still)
edit: and as for the question I would give it 2 months if hes desperate/gets into the routine

He never had a piece of my ass to begin with, and he lives a few states away. Besides, my booty-call is much hotter and lives maybe five minutes away from me.
It's over when I say it's over.

Dammit, that's it, I'm getting a restraining order!
edit: Your timing is terrifying, he most definitely just sent me another text as I posted this.

I always thought it to be better to avoid any chance of confusion in the matter. I'm not skilled at understanding subtleties.

Maybe this is one of the many female/male differences?
Though it doesn't make any sense to me... you're pretty much saying if you got absolutely 0 response from someone, you'd continue to try to communicate with them expecting a something different?
Isn't the definition of insanity trying the same thing over and over again, expecting to get different results?

Well, I never said I was very smart.
Subtly rude doesn't get the job done, overtly rude does.
I don't know about everyone else but I treat people the same way I treat technology, if it doesn't respond I assume it's either broken or didn't receive my input, so I input the same thing again louder.
I prefer hiring a hitman to solve my problems instead of being overtly rude. Would hate for people to think I'm a bitch.
If technology doesn't respond to my input, I assume I've routed it wrong or we blew a preamp. If a person doesn't respond, however, they're either idiots or not worth the effort to keep repeating myself.
