Going to Bonnaroo?

Is anyone here going to Bonnaroo (http://www.bonnaroo.com)?

This year's line-up includes Pearl Jam (the main headliner), Metallica, Kanye West[/B], Robert Plant & Allison Krauss, Jack Johnson, Willie Nelson, B.B. King, Death Cab for Cutie, Twalib Kweli, and Ben Folds.. among MANY other musical acts.

If you don't have any clue what I'm talking about, check out the website. It's pretty much one of the most epic music and arts festivals going on these days. (For four days, Bonnaroo is supposedly the third biggest city in the state of Tennessee- so it's pretty big.)

I both am and am not surprised.

It's really popular among college-aged kids, especially the hippie types, and attracts people from all over the country. Everyone in middle Tennessee has heard of it (cause it's held there). It's a little like Burning Man (from what little I know about Burning Man), and is probably best compared to Woodstock... just a lot more in control.

(Don't take that to mean there aren't drugs. You could probably get stoned out of your mind just walking across the grounds.)

I'll see your four day festival with 200-400 odd performers, and raise you a three week festival with 3000. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adelaide_Fringe_Festival) But I'm not going to anything :(

Kanye West seems kind of out of place. But anyway, Bonnaroo is great, I recommend it to anyone who can go to check it out (assuming you enjoy music).

But I bet there's not a bunch of camping hippies at that one. Or insanely relaxed drug laws. (Coffee County sheriffs are really told "Hey, if they're not hurting anyone, just look the other way"... literally. I have quite a few friends in the area who know.)

And Kanye West is no where near out of place. Talib Kweli has been there in years past, as have other rap acts.

Couldn't afford to go even if I knew what it was.

However, I had to say: that is one *weird* line-up. :p The guy from Led Zeppelin and Alison Krause - the lady with the fiddle? Huh? Sounds fun, though. :)

Alison Krauss isn't "the lady with the fiddle"- she's an awesome bluegrass performer. :P

I normally wouldn't be able to afford to go, but someone is selling me a ticket at half price, and my friends are letting me camp in their tent with them.

That's why I said Kanye West seems out of place, not Talib Kweli or rap. Talib Kweli fits right in, but his rap isn't the same type of stuff Kanye does. But Bonnaroo does always have at least a couple musicians every year that seem to be not what you'd expect at it (which, I guess, kind of makes them fit in).

Heh. I didn't mean any disrespect to Alison Krauss - I'm a fan, as it happens. I didn't figure on NS having too many bluegrass fans, and the mental image that the pairing brought to mind was 70s Plant, with the hair, and her with the fiddle - the incongruity threw me, that's all. :p

It made me go "whaaa?" at first, but was a major selling point for getting a Bonnaroo ticket. Plus, you know... Willie Nelson. Oh My God I'm going to get to see Willie Nelson. AND B.B. KING.

Does Ross Noble count?

And here's where the gap between continents makes me go "Who?" He looks like a far-out character on Wikipedia, though.
