It's like here in the UK when people discuss Ann Widdecombe; they often just laugh at her for not being pretty, rather than attacking her, frankly, abhorrent views.

I love how all the "Republican" shots are carefully posed professional photographs, while all the "Democratic" shots are weirdly-angled candid shots. (I also love that, despite all that, Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin still look like they're going to hunt you down and eat your souls.)

I totally thought so, too. I was in the US at the time and it irked me to no end that someone who would have been considered attractive in real life by most people was ridiculed by the very same people for being "ugly and fat". Like, whaa? She was thinner than the vast majority of the people who said that and she is faaaar from "ugly" by any objective standard.
It was quite a lesson in the vitriol that can be spewed on women who dare to transgress too much.
If people had come across a picture of a man like Clinton and a young woman like Lewinsky together in any kind of other circumstance they would have been all "Man, he must be rich to have gotten her, what else would a chick like that with an old man like him." But no, all that Clinton was criticized on was having an affair and lying about it, while she was being vilified all over the place in large part because of her appearance. The fuck?
