How do they benefit from this

I am a HUGE fan of MythBusters, I watch the show religiously. For me, Wednesday night is MythBusters night. Now I notice that many times when they need to blow something up (Jamie wants a big boom), they either work with the local police department or the FBI. What I always wonder is how do the Police and FBI benefit from helping Adam and Jamie bow things up? I've heard that one of the way they benefit is for their Anti-Terror efforts. They basically let Adam and Jamie blow things up to see how much damage a certain amount of explosive would do. What do you guys think?

Well, I assumed it's just that they're people, too, and like seeing things blow up as much as anybody else, and some of them may even enjoy the show.

I'm pretty sure the PBI is perfectly capable of blowing up random shit themselves.

Entertainment. I know they do a lot of stuff in the North Bay (my bf works at a company that's housed in an old hangar, and has seen them several times). Police in that area are probably bored a lot.

They pay them.

They have to hire those people to be there anyway for the demonstrations, like hiring extra police for your event, so they just talk them into letting them take it that next step.

What they don't revel on the show is that she doesn't wear pants.

The Mythbusters like pointless fun explosions. The FBI likes pointless fun explosions.

The FBI has the equipment and people. The Mythbusters have the TV show.

'Tis a match made in heaven.

It's probably a lot of things. A combination of money, good will, and the fact that having a show produced in a city helps the economy (or something like that, anyway). It could also be that there is a small portion of the organizations you mentioned who's partial or full duty is overseeing civilian operation of explosives.

But at the end of the day, if you were an explosives expert, and someone called you and said "Do you want to help us blow up a cement truck on television?".. would you really say no?

You know, speaking as someone who's lived near a military base for 90% of my life... it's not just the FBI. It's the entire damn government that loves pointless fun explosions.

Mythbusters is a pretty good show, too. I like when they shoot stuff... like shooting a car to prove gunfire won't make it explode.

Did you see the Predator-respective episode where they mowed down a tree with a rapid fire gun (Gatling-like)?
The tree caught fire and got sawed off.

Why do people need Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy when we can see stuff like that on television. I mean really.

If anyone in either show were as sexy as Kari, it would be worth a glimpse. If they did any of the cool stuff done in Mythbusters in conjunction, they could have any manner of convoluted storyline as frosting. :)

I'd say it's mostly a goodwill thing for the cops & the FBI, it shows them in a positive light. Plus they get their faces on the TV & they probably love shooting/blowing stuff up anyway.

On a more important note, Kari is my favourite part of Mythbusters too. :)
