Well, this is interesting. (http://www.sptimes.com/2008/02/19/Northpinellas/Scourge_of_Scientolog.shtml)

It wouldn't surprise me if the CoS is responsible, but the small amount of details provided makes it difficult to form an opinion.

this seems rather suspicious, a man who is probably considered a enemy of the church or whatever they call those who oppose them suddenly commuted suicide with no real known motive?

Theyve atempted such things before, and their church doctrine encourages it...

I won't jump to conclusions, but I won't rule out that they did it, either.

*whispers to his lawyer*

Bolol's Lawyer: Mr. Bolol has declined to offer any opinion or statement regarding the supposed suicide of Shawn Lonsdale, for fear that...is this correct?

*nods*

Bolol's Lawyer: Ahem...sorry...for fear that "the fascist pigs" will construe his words for "bigotry", and that the Church of Scientology, under the "fair play" policy, will either send their own lawyers to...are we certain?

*nods again*

Bolol's Lawyer: ...That they will send their own lawyers to "sue his ass into the next arm of the galaxy" or send a hit team to "stomp a mudhole in his ass." Any questions are to be directed to Mr. Bolol's secretary at 1-800-LOL-WHUT.

*Whispers to lawyer*

Bolol's Lawyer: One last thing, Mr. Bolol would like to "thank his friends for their undying support in his crusade against the...'red menace'"...What?

*Nods*

Bolol's Lawyer: Oh whatever...

I very much doubt it - he was contributing less and less over the previous year to the fight.

I'd say he was always depressed, someone who perhaps found some meaning in life by taking on the CoS, achieved some degree of fame and I suspect that it just wasn't enough in the long run - he lost interest, fell back into depression and committed suicide.

Sad news.

That is a very depressing take on the event.

I'd have to agree. I wouldn't put it past the Church, but then again, there's no reason to suspect that they did it. If they are "innocent until proven guilty," I'm guessing they are also "innocent until there's even the slightest evidence."

Unlike its religious predecessors Scientology cannot get rid of heretics against it llawfully. Scientology is all about gaining control, not giving enlightenment.

It would surprise me if Co$ was behind it.

In fact, I wouldn't put it beyond them to even go as far as to forge a suicide note. Anything to throw off the scent.

The location definitely makes it appear suspicious. Clearwater is home to Sea Org, the zealous arm of Co$. Their zealotry make the Phelpsies look rather moderate.

You know simple black and white suits with a white 'stocking' style mask would be a pretty good protest costume for the Anonymous protests instead of borrowing on the whole V for Vendetta thing. And actually creepier. Maybe that's not what they want, ah well...

White stocking masks, maybe. But the suits, ties and hats should stay.

But stocking masks are better. More all round anonymity by hiding hair color and length. You'll need to cut eye holes though.

Cut eye holes, but wear dark shades.

What is more likely is the Church will instead find everyone who uses the Internet, and kill them. They'll trace Wikipedia edits, find email users, and of course employ spies in Internet forums.

Of course, no one here is a Scientologist spy. Or are they?

It was either anon or a "suicide". I use quotes because my theory is he did it to strike a final blow at the church, since all of the suspicion would be on them.

That or it could be the CoS...

Exactly. When he drops off people's radar, Scientology is under far less suspicion if he suddenly ends up dead.

It's just that this is a very dumb way to kill yourself. If you're going to use your car, why not sit in the car instead? That would have been far easier.

Also, it's not like Scientology hasn't been involved in these things in the past. Quentin Hubbard, Ron's son, killed himself much the same way, using his car, and Flo Barnett, David Miscavige's mother-in-law, committed suicide by shooting herself twice in the chest and once in the head with a rifle. Two suicide notes from her were found.

I can see why people are suspicious.

reading the OP article, he struck me as a manic depressive. From the looks of it, his manic phase (the strenous attack on Scientology) had run it's course and he had well and truly entered his depressive phase.
Of course, the Scientologists actions towards him wouldn't have helped him any. In that respect, they can shoulder some of the blame for him topping himself.
