The only solution is to switch to biodegradable materials that decompose instead of gathering up like this. A global ban on plastics is needed, only wooden gadgets and paper bags from now on!

Fuck that shit, plastic is fine if it's recycled.

Well, we had a bigass discussion about it a month or two ago, so a lot of us are commented out. Plus you didn't give much of a prompt, so since a lot of us already know about it you didn't leave us enough to go on.

There's a kind of microwave that turns plastic back into oil and gas (http://environment.newscientist.com/channel/earth/dn12141-giant-microwave-turns-plastic-back-to-oil.html), I had this notion that a barge could be sent out there to trawl the trash continent with one of those microwaves on it, breaking down the plastics to power itself and collecting the rest of it for other recycling efforts. I don't see how that would be profitable so it would have to be funded and I don't know who would do that. Plus there are plenty of other reasons that's impractical, probably more than I've thought of, but if you wanted my magic wand solution, thats it.
