I just love history, I really love the history of sex. And it just is amazing to me that 500 years ago, some practices that were criminal then are normal now (homosexuality), and some practices normal then are criminal now (pedophilia, as in 13 year old girls marrying men in their 20's)

So this is a prediction thread. What will the standards for sex be in 500 years? The appropriate age could be 10, or it could be 30. Where will homosexuality be? Pedophilia? Beastiality?

Nice - I think virtual sex will show us to be the truly degraded creatures we are, just as the Internet shows the enormous market for all sorts of sexual activities.

Just as the rat will push the orgasm button until it dies, so the human will do nothing except find higher and greater means of stimulation.

I expect in 500 years, aliens will pop by to find the earth will simply be a heaving, writhing mass of virtually connected sex.

In the more immediate future, it may be that technology allows us to experience a continual state of sexual climax such that living is continual masturbation.

All obviously "bad" sex (pedophilia, bestiality) will still be illegal, but it should be relatively easy to find a sexbot to do anything you want, on the grounds that if the pedophiles and bestialitics(is this a word?) are having sex with bots they are not having sex with actual children/animals.
Polygamy and incest will probably be legal for real people.
Paper porn will have been mostly replaced with virtual reality porn; after all, why look at sex when you can have sex?
Nudity will probably be more acceptable, also.

1) At some point, technology makes it so we won't need to get anything done for ourselves, or at least not as much as we do now. Consider if you told our ancestors that millions of people would be able to snack on sugary food all day to the extent that obesity became a major problem. They would laugh at you for thinking that so much food could possibly exist, and that it would be possible to get society's labor done with so many people eating themselves into blobs.

Already wikipedia serves as a kind of collective memory for many of us, and computers/calculators have long served as surrogate processors for applications of increasing complexity. As soon as you see an interface improvement from cumbersome manual buttons to something more intuitive and immediate to our thought, you'll start to see a serious erosion of the boundaries between individuals.

I think, like many here have expressed, that internet porn will continue to grow and become more sophisticated as technology advances, but I fear that in terms of "real" sex we may experience a backlash of conservativism. I would also not be surprised if forced sterilization and other attempts at population control became more prevalent... I don't know what the estimates are for 500 years in the future, but if we haven't managed to inhabit any other planets by then we're gonna be awfully crowded.

As for my opinion, I have a feeling computers will evolve to the point where robots will be involved in sex acts though human interaction will still be the main attraction. Nudity will probably be more widely accepted, and so long as the idea of being an adult at 18 sticks around, that will probably still be the age that sex is considered appropriate if you're consenting.

Actually, quite untrue. Back when arranged marriages were normal, and women were shipped off as young as 12, pedophilia wasn't very common at all. The reason is quite simple. They would arrange marriages because they (parents) wanted specific bloodlines to mix and maybe to get the fortunes behind the other family. It wasn't because the 20 year old man liked little girls, it was because he wanted the money the little girl had.

And rarely did they ever have sex with the little girls until they hit puberty at around 16 or 17. Before then, they would simply have sex with other women, because it would be of no use to have sex with a little girl because she can't really bear children.

If you love history so much, you should stop injecting your own modern look at it, and look at it purely within context.

After reading through parts of this thread, i am disturbed by Straughns images, and that interview with that guy who wrote a book about having sex with robots.

Well, a 13 year old marrying a 20 year old would not be technically paedophilia, since paedophilia is sexual attraction to prepubescent minors, and a 13 year old is not prepubescent... But I doubt the standards will change much in a practical sense, though they will in technical senses, homosexuality will likely become pretty mainstream (even more so than now), beastiality will still likely be illegal; and sex with minors will likely still be frowened upon, though the age of what constitutes a minor may change....

Considering that the technological progress (and integration into society) has accelerated throughout history, even accounting for the rough spots, I think it's reasonable to assume that it will continue to do the same, although perhaps hindered a little by possible climate destabilization, cultural conflicts arising from world made "smaller" by technology, and a loosening of human will's grasp on the reign of society. I think that if you consider all the forces acting in society, the more outlandish idea is that people with individual minds in individual bodies will still be the norm in 500 years.
