NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) -- President Tassos Papadopoulos was eliminated Sunday in a cliff-hanger first round of Cyprus' presidential election -- a surprise result that could signal a renewed drive to end the island's decades-old division.
With this, could we finally see a reunited island of Cyprus? Well if we listen to these two candidates we could. I hope so. The island has been divided for to long.

The one kind of cheese I have trouble getting good specimens of here in the PRC is haloumi, and I demand the new regime rectify this problem with all possible speed.

turkey invaded to stop cyprus becoming part of greece and support for Taksim is no longer significant in the turkish cypriot population, as evidenced by their support for the Annan plan. at this point Cyprus does well enough as an independant country that there is no danger of it ceding to greece. there is little reason for turkey to oppose reunification, especially conidering their wish to join the EU, and this support for two moderates from greek cypriots shows that they are more willing to consider reunification than they were 4 years ago.
Hopefully the Communist wins.
