Happy President's Day! (US)

As a state employee, I don't have to work today. (Not that what I do can really be called "work").

On this day, we honor George Washington, who set several precedents (for future presidents) by acting not as king, not as "the decider" and using his enormous influence to solidify power for himself, but as a temporary leader, not ruler, of a new secular Republic. Read his wordy, but forward-thinking farewell address here: http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Washington%27s_Farewell_Address

Also, we give a shout out to Lincoln, who charted a course through the roughest political waters of all to preserve the union and end slavery.

P.S. Yes I know these presidents have their downsides, but so does everybody. I bet you all pee in the shower and pick your nose when nobody's looking and walk past homeless people while avoiding eye contact, you pathetic persons.

Ah screw President's Day! I have a package that I really really want, but nooo, because it's President's Day I have to wait a day before I can go get it from the post office. The stupid thing is, it's sitting in the post office less than a mile from my house! :headbang:

Awful man. Awful awful man.

It doesn't help that everytime I hear that name I, for some reason, picture a duck.

I got a super sale on cookware because I went in today, and chatted up a manager who decided to ignore the exception on my coupon... then when the set I wanted was not in store, he gave me free shipping. The set I wanted came with a gift of a free panini pan and apron, so he made sure I got those too, as well as a list of "kicker" pans that my cookware company makes in the same high-end level I got, but with a couple cosmetic changes that would save me tens of dollars getting the promotional rather than the "open stock" stuff.

Good times. :)

Final price was some $230 less than I could have gotten it elsewhere.

In Canada we get a day off because of "Family Day" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_Day#Canada), some holiday that the government made up just to get another day off...reminds me of Love Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_Day)

A local department store, Costington's, announces the formation of a new summer holiday intended to boost sales: Love Day.

It's a federal holiday. What do you expect?

BTW, tommorrow is going to suck for us carriers, due to the mail build up from today.

Lucky basetard. I would kill for school right now. The classes that I have when I get back are PHENOMENAL.

Much better than sitting here watching Jerry Springer and Millard Fillmore commercials until 2:00...

I attend Lincoln University of Missouri, an HBCU (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HBCU). We don't celebrate presidents day because Washington was a slaveholding racist. We do however have Lincoln's birthday off.:p

I don't have any classes to day, but I'm supposed to be writing an essay for tomorrow. Unfortunately, I think I had too much chocolate and coffee this morning (damn you, after-Valentine's Day sales!) and so I can't focus on anything for more than two or three minutes.

P.S. Yes I know these presidents have their downsides, but so does everybody. I bet you all pee in the shower and pick your nose when nobody's looking and walk past homeless people while avoiding eye contact, you pathetic persons.
Hey, that sounds like fun! I'm gonna go pee on some homeless persons who are picking their noses.

Over here we don't go into this kind of thing. Can't really see us taking Churchills birthday off. I wonder why?

You're too busy fighting off poltergeists and/or the Loch Ness monster to take any time off, that's why.

ah, two of my favourite pastimes...

But seriously, we just get bank holidays off. And they just seem to be spaced fairly randomly.

I vehemently dislike George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, so instead of wishing you all a happy President's Day I will instead wish you a happy day. :)

Biggest downside is it used to be two holidays, one for each of their birthdays. :p

My sympathies. Honestly.

I just hope the mailer doesn't mess up my package...I'm so tempted to just drive over there in the morning and pick it up, but I can't because it's too small.

I bet you all pee in the showerFrom across the room, at the mirror - i just twist my hips a little.
and pick your nose when nobody's lookingToo much effort. I don't care if they see me pulling dusty cobwebs from my nostrils.
and walk past homeless people while avoiding eye contact, you pathetic persons.Actually, i usually confront them and see if they've got any results for my investments.
