I do believe these folks think a little much of themselves as most politicians do. How the heck do they have the idea that their presence will insure a fair election? They will be over there smoozing with the "establishment," they may check in with the opposition, but what gives them the hoopzbah to think their presence will make a difference in he fairness of the election?

1. Who are we talking about?
2. I would assume that they would collect the fares to certify that the election was indeed fare. :p
Ok, so I spelled fair wrong and forgot the link and title. It has nothing to do with the wine I had for supper or the bourbon I'm drinking now.

I'm sure the Senators will ensure that the voting process happens fairly at the particular polling places they visit for the duration of their visit to them.

Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice says U.S. Embassy staffers and European officials will be among the outsiders observing the balloting. She says the election must inspire confidence that Pakistan's citizens can vote freely.

Invite high Cuban government officials. They are experts on Democratic elections. They just had Cuban National Assembly elections. Which according to the Cuban government 96 % percent of all elegible voters voted. 04 % were to busy traveling around the nation or too sick to vote. 91 % percent voted for The United Vote Block Option, that is for all 614 pro government candidates out of 614 candidates. 05 % percent voted only for thier winning district candidate, 01.04 % percent blank ballots, 03.73 % percent voted for more than one candidate but some how made irregularities on the ballot and they had to be annulled.
A few years ago they had a democratic national referendum petition to declare the nations, economic, political and social system irrevocable. Which according to the Cuban government 99 percent of all elegible voters supported, no one opposed. There was only one choice on the petition. Passed by the National Assembly Parliment all members for none against.
Now that is what I call real democratic election results.

Sounds just like the last time Saddam was elected. Perhaps we need the Cubans and the Bath Party to monitor the elections in Pakistan. ...oh wait...maybe the UN can do it...

I should think the premium on an election would be quite high considering their cost and unreliability in many places; then again, I'd never buy one.

You also used insure instead of ensure. Although that mistake is so common, it probably isn't a mistake.

Isn't it supposed to be "ensure" as well?
Perhaps you shouldn't post drunk, or at least get the Google toolbar.
LG being elected as President of Pakistan is a threat to the Free World entire.
They might be fair in essence but the deterrent factor of Musharaff's troops on the street in such numbers is substantial. It might be like an 'Austrian election', an election with stormtroops at the ballots.

There was an election in Liberia, a few decades ago, in which the number of votes allegedly cast for the governing party's candidates was several times larger than the number of people actually eligible to vote...
