Yeah...Gallipoli failed due to the simple fact that technology for infantry defense--especially when it came to amphibious assaults--had yet to catch up with anti-infantry weaponry. This was kinda the whole reason the entire war dragged on for so long.

The main reason that the campaign failed is one) the preparation and planning of the mission was not a closely held secret by British Command
and the second reason is that the troops were dropped off at incorrect places and thus were doomed from the beginning

Aye, the whole thing's fanciful.
Without the massive British contingent in Western Europe, the French would have buggered off, and the Germans would be sipping champagne in Paris by 1917, which would also prevent the US from getting into Europe with any degree of ease.
Why we'd be fighting in Italy is another important question, and since the Turks had no force projection of any kind, I don't see why we wouldn't just avoid them and go through the Baltic states and help out the Russians on the Eastern front, if that's your kind of thing.
