You know, I consider myself a pretty good judge of what is and isn't funny. Honestly, I never really understood phone pranks. I just smile and nod and go about my business of filling my dorm roommate's shoes with shaving cream. :)

But I don't get this. WHy 911? With today's cellphone plans and the glut of 1-800 toll free numbers, he could have a ball every night and weekend calling people who actually deserve to hear bodily noises at random. I also suspect this twit is severely undersexed. *nod*

Likewise, they're far too....cowardly almost. You know you've got a good prank when the person on the receiving end laughs too. If you have to resort to hiding your identity for fear of an ass-whooping, then there'sthe strong possibility that you're just being an asshole.

OCD? 27,000calls?
What an utter....i mean how....why?....just no one needs to make 27,000 calls for anything..ever, unless it's...no not even a nuclear bomb would justify that amount of sheer, i use the word ignorance, but it fails badly here.
*flabbergasted stare at PC*

EDIT:oooh someone else also caught onto this. Conspiracy!

When asked why he made the calks, he replied: "Because it's free."
So he had to do it just cause it's free. Wish I had a neighbour like that. I'd tell 'em they can have my garbage for free, just come and pick it up every Thursday. If I had a lawn I'd give them the tips of my grass for free too, just cut it off and take it when it has grown long enough.

:O That is against the prankcallers' code of honor. NEVER CALL 911 (or other emergency service). It's not even remotely funny. That should be a capital offense. Especially so many...

What a jerkoff...

So the next question is "will he be charged 27,000 times with the the crime of abusing 911?"

He could get 789,000 hours of community service.

Don't we pay some monthly charge for the emergency services?

You pay a monthly charge for 9-1-1 on your cell phone and on your home (land line) phone. It can be anywhere from 50 cents to one dollar, depending on what area you are. That money is used to maintain and update the 9-1-1 database.

The problem with cell phones is that even if your service is disconnected, you can still call 9-1-1 for free from that cell phone. You just cannot make any other calls.

Also, how many lives were put at risk by clogging the network? That sort of disregard for consequences to others departed me shortly after a stern lecture by a policeman and a good shouting session from my mom when I was twelve(I was dropping eggs off an overpass onto a highway).

I understand why making a few prank emergency calls would be a misdemeanor, but surely they crossed the line... at least 2000 times.

Some phones also allow you to call 911 even when it is keypad locked.

A few years ago, I was sleeping with the ph in my pocket and accidentally pressed it (that must be a bizarre coincidence of accidental pressing I agree :p). They actually called me back (it was 4 AM) and I was very embarrassed. http://www.smileyx.com/smilies/ashamed0002.gif

There's a number I can't remember that will not only call through keypad lock, it will call the emergency service in whatever country you're currently in.

EDIT: I looked it up, it's 112 the EU emergency number and will dial even on all GSM mobile phones including locked ones and ones without SIM cards. In Australia and the US it will redirect to 000 and 911 respectively.

I hope they put this person in a mental institution or prison for a very, very long time. At the worst someone who really needed help could have died because of him, and at the very least look at all the thousands of dollars that were wasted responding to his calls.

Give him to me. I will teach him funny.

On the other hand, that could be construed as cruel and unusual punishment. :p

Some years ago my wife and I purchased our first "remote" phone (not a cell but one you can use anywhere in the house.) One Saturday we were watching TV when the doorbell rang. I got up to answer it and a policeman was there. He asked me if everything was OK and I said, "Yes." He then asked if my wife was home and I said, "Yes." He then asked to talk to my wife.

I called her and she came to the door. The policeman asked her if everything was OK, to which she replied, "Yes." Then he asked if we had a remote phone and when we told him yes, he said it needed to be recharged. He explained that some of the remote phones, when the battery go low somehow called 911. Needless to say we made sure the phone was always charged after that.

Why is he only getting charged with a misdemeanor? With that many calls, he could have seriously endangered somones life! He should get something much worse... I say 5 hours with LG in a cell. Oh, and LOTS of pies.
But with all seriouness, he should go to jail for that.
